1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing and expensive, March 14, 2009
This review is from: Automotive Electrics: Systems and Components: Networking, Hybrid Drive (Automotive Electronics Series) (Hardcover)
This book doesn't seem to be written for anybody's actual needs. It's not a practical guide for a professional mechanic, and though the language is very (overly) technical, the content is actually too high-level to communicate any real understanding of the subject matter on a theoretical level. It isn't even organized into chapters that make sense to me. I kept wondering if it was the translation, but I don't think so. After slogging through about a quarter of it, I decided I was wasting my time. Another minor point is that it is printed in very small type, and so it's a chore to read it. I'm a former pro mechanic who now works as a technical writer, and I got the book because I wanted to increase my understanding of serial bus communications in automotive electronic systems. It did not meet my needs, so I've ordered a couple of other books, which I hope will be more helpful.

3.0 out of 5 stars Introductory compilation, February 19, 2008
This review is from: Automotive Electrics: Systems and Components: Networking, Hybrid Drive (Automotive Electronics Series) (Hardcover)
The Bosch Handbook for Automotive Electrics is a slightly edited compilation of the short monographies Bosh publishes on sensors, braking systems, etc.

For a workshop technician it provides a sound view of many automotive systems and parts. It hints some of the physical problems and effects involved.

However, it is clearly under engineering/university level. The most part of the systems, parts and phenomena treated here can be studied at a deeper level in the Bosch Automotive Handbook, which also treats most non-electric/electronic systems.
