Good book, but far from great,

It's overall not a bad book. Each article gives a short but informative review of each car, enough to give a base feel of what each car is like. The range of cars listed is nice also, it's not just exotics costing $100,000+ but more "common" cars worthy of sport car status are listed too.
So, why do I only give 3 stars out of five? Simple: 1) As stated by someone else, no table of contents. mind you it's not a huge book so it's not hard to just thumb through it and find a car. But having one would be handy also. 2) I'm not sure why the one fellow claims the pictures are great. To be honest, they aren't. They look like they were either a) photocopies of a color print or b) black and white printings of a color image. Either way, I have to agree with another person when I say it would almost be better if there were no photos. About the only thing the photos do for me is make me want to look up a color high quality image, not the low quality black and white. As an aside I'm not knocking black and white images, if they were of good quality that would be fine. But they aren't, the cover image is MUCH better then the ones found inside. Anyway, if the author writes another book, and IF he addresses said issues in that book I'd consider buying it. But if he doesn't, I'd truly have to think on that. I don't feel ripped off, but I don't feel like the book was a bargain even at the current price either.

There is a lot of great information, but the pictures could not be worse. I think showing NO pictures would have been better than seeing the awful pictures that were included. I'm not too surprised that someone would think the book is great on the Kindle. Unfortunately, I'm sure the pictures look the same on the Kindle as they do in the actual book... black, white, grey and washed out. A big disappointment!

Great content, difficult to navigate.,

The only reason I gave this three stars is because it's difficult to read on the Kindle. There's no working table of contents, which is frustrating for a book like this where you want to jump around from car to car rather then reading the entire book sequentially.

Fantastic Book! And Sharp Color Images,

Well, I imagine all the complaints about the pictures from the other users are probably people who are using an actual Kindle to read this book. The pictures were absolutely amazing on my HP TouchPad w/ Kindle App. They were extremely vivid color, high resolution, and very sharp. The picture of the Aston Martin DBS was gorgeous. I imagine anyone reading this with HP WebOS, Android, and iOS on a Kindle App will love the book. Now I know that the Kindle is supposed to be the main device here, but considering how many tablets are selling with a free Kindle App, that's the way to go considering the massive extra utility (16gb TouchPad was on sale this past weekend for $200 off from Staples. That's only the price of 2 Kindles).
The book itself is put together very nicely. Images, writing, specs, it's all there and is really great. Navigating for me was a piece of cake as the Kindle App for HP WebOS has the scroll bar accessible at the bottom of the screen when you want it and the cars are all in alphabetical order. It has been an absolute breeze to scroll to whichever car I wanted to read about first; whether it was on page 2 or page 3,259 (that's how many "locations" my app splits it out to via scroll bar, there aren't actually that many pages; comes out to 108 "print-pages" per the description). All that being said, it'd be nice to know about these differences before purchasing. If I had my heart dead-set on pictures, I probably wouldn't have bought this book based on the reviews saying how bad they are. Imagine my surprise when they were that good. Haven't read the whole thing as I just bought it, but so far the writing and specs are dead on.

Wow! What a find.
For the price of an average magazine here is a complete guide to the best Sports Cars on the planet. Great pictures, full specifications and well written reviews which really bring these cars to life. This publication really shows that the Kindle is not just for books but can handle a wide variety of content. Way to go! |
