Book Description

Beginning with a discussion of the problem of autonomy in dynamic psychiatry and a review of its development from infancy to adolescence, the author of Neurotic Styles explores, with numerous clinical examples, the distortion of the development of autonomy in obsessive-compulsive conditions, in sadism and masochism, and, finally, in paranoia.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book on character and character disorder, July 19, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Autonomy And Rigid Character (Paperback)
I actually read this book about 7 years ago in graduate school in clinical psychology. It is an excellent discussion of how character can develop pathologically. This provides insight for understanding and intervention. The book is very easily read. I have also read Shapiro's "Neurotic Styles." The two overlap somewhat, but "Neurotic Styles" is also a very readable and informative book on character development and disorder
