Autour's Best, September 17, 2005

I found about this band one time i went to borders and they had their Faux Mouvement CD on sale. Since I was minoring in French I was buying music in French so I could practice the language. Autour's first two albums are more french pop oriented, with a sound more or less like Ivy's and the Cardigans. Then, with Faux Mouvement their sound changed a little bit to lush landscapes of few words and lots of music. Autour de Lucie's self-titled album is the best so far, coming up with a sound very unique and likable. This last album leans toward ambient electronic music rather than the pop sound that made them famous. Valerie's voice is at its best in this album. The songwriting has improved, but nothing that different from previous records. Still, each song has more music than voice and this one includes a song in english, equally enjoyable as the others. I recommend this album if you like music by artists like ivy and frou frou.
