5.0 out of 5 stars Autoweek mag is great!! March 17, 2010
Subscription Term Name:1 year|Verified Purchase
I have been getting Autoweek Magazine for more than 15 years and think it is the best auto related magazine of them all. It is bi-weekly, so it is up to date. The contributing editors, like Denise McCluggage, have been around cars and racing forever so they can give insights that other mags just cannot. Others, like Natalie Neff, have a real way with words that make the car stories come to life. They seem to have a pretty fair bias in their reviews, with the only exception being a bias in favor of Porsche, no matter what Porsche does. It has good racing coverage, good long-term reviews with fair reporting and interesting insights as to what is happening in the automotive world right now. In buying it through Amazon, I can get it at a price even cheaper than as a current subscriber.

5.0 out of 5 stars The car enthusiast's biweekly December 5, 2009
Subscription Term Name:1 year|Verified Purchase
Autoweek comes more than once per month, so they are usually first with much of the news and car tests that car enthusiasts are interested in. It is a little pricey for an annual subscription, but shop around for price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Best for the completist July 21, 2010
By rommyc
Subscription Term Name:1 year|Verified Purchase
I get WAY too many car magazines, but you can find subscription deals for so little that it makes sense (sort of). Pick this one up on the newsstand a few times before you subscribe, it really doesn't have anything the monthlies don't, it is NOT weekly anymore, and they follow the same review embargoes as everyone else. One advantage is racing coverage, but there's something now called the internet that is instantaneous so they've lost an advantage there too. In case you're wondering, the best car mag is CAR from the UK. It's expensive but well worth it, the truly addictive crack cocaine of auto journalism.

2.0 out of 5 stars It Ain't What It Used To Be October 9, 2013
Subscription Term Name:1 year auto-renewal
I was a loyal AW subscriber for about 25 years (maybe more), but of late "it ain't what it used to be". There is now too much focus on personalities, events, watches, cigars, etc., and not nearly enough focus on sheet metal. If I wanted what they currently cover, I would have subscribed to GQ, not AUTOweek (with an emphasis on AUTO"). Further, too much reference is now made to "see more content on our website". That doesn't work for me since I do my automotive reading while pausing twice daily in my "reading room". (Reading from an iPad in the "reading room" just doesn't do it for me - I prefer pulp (no - not for that!) Fortunately, my local tire store provides Automobile magazine (as well as Car & Driver) in the waiting room. Automobile seems to satisfy my sheet-metal needs, so I am now switching over to Automobile. (I tried European Car, but it has way too much emphasis on BMW, Audi and Mercedes, to the neglect of other European makes - plus too many "aftermarket modification" stories.) Basically, I want to know what's coming out of the automobile (and truck) manufacturers in the way of offerings I can actually buy, and not much else. If AW ever gets back to focusing on sheet metal, I might re-subscribe. But for now they have lost a once loyal customer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Read August 5, 2012
By dinkus
Subscription Term Name:1 year auto-renewal|Verified Purchase
I like Autoweek because of the articles. They are usually short enough for a quick read, but provide enough information to actually inform you. It is well written and entertaining to read. My only complaint is that there are so many ads, especially towards the back of the magazine. I know that this is necessary for a magazine to survive in the digital era that we are in now. I can overlook this fault, because the rest of the magazine is filled with good substance. I would recommend this magazine to anyone that has a love or interest of cars.

4.0 out of 5 stars AutoWeek Magazine Renewal June 25, 2010
By jde
Subscription Term Name:1 year|Verified Purchase
I have received this magazine for many years. It is a bi-weekly publication, and I think the quality is higher since it converted from a weekly.

My only problem is that my subscription did not go through as a renewal, so I started getting two copies of the same issue. I believe the correction has now been made.

3.0 out of 5 stars Meatloaf October 3, 2013
Subscription Term Name:1 year auto-renewal|Verified Purchase
I'd compare Autoweek to a diner in a changing neighborhood that has played with its menu a bit, but is most confident in and proudly features its meatloaf. Meatloaf is fine on occasion, but you get the sense that this magazine, despite being biweekly, is slightly behind on its coverage. But I get the sense that most of readers are meatloaf eaters, so I am sure their subscriber base is happy.

Here are some compliments and complaints:
I really appreciate the coverage of motorsports. The F1 coverage is pretty good, but aside from that, it's pretty US centric. Coverage is basically for stuff you can see on TV, plus a few niche US series. I'd like to see WRC, and LeMans covered more regularly. They waste a lot of space speculating over the future of the American Le Mans series, when there are real races going on now. I am no fan of NASCAR, so of course I'm going to say there's too much coverage. But they're getting and publishing frequent letters from readers on NASCAR fatigue.

The coverage itself could use a bit of a refresh. Basically, it's a lot of text and then stock press photos. Some of these articles describe rankings, describe all sorts of scenarios for end-of-season points. I think a few simple graphics regularly included would help.

Questionable choices:
I think you want to review a broad range of cars, but I don't think it's necessary to waste time reviewing humdrum cars just because they're popular. The mag's recent Corolla review was zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz . . . (sorry) even apologetic about wasting two pages; it was a little weird, and they had to really stretch to find something exciting to say.

The last issue I got was devoted to trucks and had 2 NASCAR chaps on the cover.
