Book Description

November 22, 2011 Autumn (Book 4)

Autumn: Disintegration is the penultimate chapter in David Moody's riveting horror series!

Forty days have passed since the world died. Billions of corpses walk the Earth. Everything is disintegrating. . . .

A group of eleven men and women have survived against the odds. On an almost daily basis, they attack the dead with brutal ferocity, tearing through them with utter contempt.

Somewhere nearby, out of sight and out of earshot, is another group that has adopted a completely different survival strategy. Where the others have used brutality and strength, these people have demonstrated subtlety, planning, and tactics.

A series of horrific events force the two groups together. Backed into a corner and surrounded by hundreds of thousands of corpses, they all know that their final battle with the dead is about to begin.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“David Moody is a master suspense builder.”---James Melzer, author of Escape: The Zombie Chronicles

“Moody is an inarguably talented author . . . one of the best horror authors of the new decade.”---Bloody-Disgusting.com

"As Moody’s Autumn series continues, it’s been about a month and a half since a virus wiped out most of humanity and turned the dead into zombies—although the author doesn’t use either the word zombie or most of the familiar tropes. A small group of men and women are holed up in a block of flats, barricaded against the lumbering dead. But their uneasy safety doesn’t last, and eventually they’re forced out into the open, where, rather coincidentally, they meet up with another band of survivors who seem to have made themselves a much more secure stronghold, until clashing personalities inside the compound threaten to put them all at risk. This is a crisply written novel (although it’s not as visceral as Moody’s Hater series, which tackles the zombie theme from a more violent angle) with well-defined characters and a palpable sense of creeping terror: these undead might be sluggish and easy to kill, but they also seem to be a lot smarter than anyone realizes. The novel ends on a terrifying, tragic note, promising a suitably horrific finale for the series."—David Pitt, Booklist

About the Author

David Moody is the author of Hater, Dog Blood, Autumn and Autumn: The City. He grew up in Birmingham, England, on a diet of horror movies and post-apocalyptic fiction. He started his career working at a bank, but then decided to write the kind of fiction he loved. His first novel, Straight to You, had what Moody calls “microscopic sales,” and so when he wrote Autumn, he decided to publish it online. The book became a sensation and has been downloaded by half a million readers. He started his own publishing company, Infected Books. He lives in Britain with his wife and a houseful of daughters, which may explain his preoccupation with Armageddon.

More About the Author

David Moody grew up on a diet of trashy horror and pulp science fiction. He worked as a bank manager before giving up the day job to write about the end of the world for a living. He has written a number of horror novels, including AUTUMN, which has been downloaded more than half a million times since publication in 2001 and spawned a series of sequels and a movie starring Dexter Fletcher and David Carradine. Film rights to HATER were snapped up by Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth) and Mark Johnson (producer of the Chronicles of Narnia films). Moody lives with his wife and a houseful of daughters and stepdaughters, which may explain his pre-occupation with Armageddon. His latest novel, TRUST, is currently available free online at www.trustdavidmoody.com. Visit Moody at www.davidmoody.net.

5.0 out of 5 stars Moody is Back! December 5, 2011
Format:Paperback
So, I received my copy of Autumn: Disintegration, and just finished it this evening. As I started the book, I was thrust immediately back into the Autumn universe with little to no introduction to the who's, the how's, the what's, the when's, and the why's. This was clearly another tale in the Autumn series and not intended to be a stand alone novel. No sir, this one was written for the fans of the series and the writing shows it.

David dives deeper into his descriptions of the bloated and putrified decaying corpses that cover the landscape, sometimes quite literally, than he has in the past. If you have a weak stomach, too bad, Moody has little compassion for that concern in his readers as he pushes the envelope wide open for how much bile he can bring to the back of your throat with his descriptions of the corpses. I'm not kidding you, there are times you can almost smell it he has described it so well.

I don't think highly of reviews that spoil the hell out of a well written tome, so all I will say is the book starts with a group of survivors that find themselves forced out of their stronghold because of their activity, only to find themselves in the stronghold of another group of survivors. Only thing is, this group of survivors has chosen a different tact of survival, that being silence, potential starvation and simply trying to outlast the dead.

Honestly, if I told you any more than that, it would result in nothing more than spoiling it. Seriously, just do yourself a favor, and go pick up a copy of this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Standalone Novel in the Autumn Zombie World January 1, 2013
Format:Paperback
Autumn Disintegration introduces a fresh bunch of survivors from the events that killed the majority of the world's population and then reanimated some of those corpses. The first three novels had reoccurring characters but this fourth doesn't go near them at all. You could interpret something happening in the background as being them but I don't think it was. Anyway the point is, if you've stumbled upon a copy of this without having read the previous novels and plan to read them later you can easily do so without spoiling your future enjoyment of the first three novels. Timeline wise this one starts forty days after the outbreak so we miss out on seeing these new players in the Autumn game freak out and wonder what is going on. We find them in a British housing commission estate which they have fortified with cars blocking the hordes of zombies amassing down the street. These characters aren't as likeable as the previous novels' ones but that adds to the fun. This group has believers in different strategies, and survivors of different ages. Some just want to wait out the rotting of the corpses, others see destroying them as a fun way to pass boredom. This books timeline duration goes on for longer than the first three so you learn stuff about the walking dead the survivors in the first three novels never did. There's also a fifth novel in the Autumn series Aftermath.

3.0 out of 5 stars Superior Formula April 17, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
It was J.L. Bourne and David Moody who hooked me on post-apocalyptic zombie fiction. Over the last seven to ten years, I have read more than I dare admit at cocktail parties. And as I have stated in reviews of this genre, so much of it is repeatable, predictable formula. That formula can provide a great deal of entertainment as can the innovators who take different perspectives on the dead rising. The entire Autumn series is a collective expression of superior formula. In this fourth outing, Moody does an admirable job detailing the dynamics amongst a group of survivors. His characters are more developed than the stereotypes one normally finds in these novels. And it is that aspect that makes it readable and leads to a fresh ending. I look forward to the fifth and final book in the series.
