Autumn In Moving Pictures, by the legendary pianist Billy Childs, is the second project featuring his jazz chamber ensemble, the first being Lyric which was released in 2005. This time around, Billy's featured musicians are Carol Robbins (harp), Larry Koonse (guitar), Bob Sheppard (sax, clarinet), Scott Colley (bass), Brian Blade & Antonio Sanchez (drums) and the Ying String Quartet (Timothy, Janet, Phillip and David). Inspired by the stark beauty of the New England autumn countryside, Billy composed music as his mind saw and remembered it, and hoped that his reflections heightened our, the listeners, awareness of what we see and remember. He succeeded. When I listened to The Path Among The Trees, A Man Chasing The Horizon, Raindrop Patterns and The Red Wheelbarrow, I saw pictures and impressions in my mind. In fact, the loneliness of the red wheelbarrow and all that conveyed brought me to tears. Now that's what music should do, but rarely does. The album's three additional tracks, Bill Evans's Waltz For Debby, Prelude In E Minor and the hauntingly beautiful Pavane showcase Mr. Childs' and his fellow musicians' talent and exquisitie musical interpretations.

Billy always tends to create a great fusion between classical and the jazz realms. I love listening to his new projects, because they always present something new. As a classical musician myself, I find it to be a great album to listen to because I get to hear both languages. Check it out if you're interested...because I know you'd love it!
