This multi-channel hybrid SACD contains absolutely THE best performance and recording of Grieg's Piano Concerto I've ever heard and I have heard many! It also contains excellent performances and recordings of Grieg's lesser know Symphony and Concert Overture "In Autumn". The pianist Noriko Ogawa mastery and commend of this piece is impressive from the start. Her phrasing is beautiful and her drama and techniques powerful. Conductor Ole Kristian Ruud is a fantastic partner with the Bergen Philharmonic at his helm. The recording technicians have also done a superb job at capturing the warm acoustics of Bergen Hall with its almost perfect reverberation time of around 1.75 seconds. If you want the best Grieg Piano Concerto performance and recording, this is the one to own.

This SACD brings the listener Three great works of Edward Grieg. The best known is the Piano Concerto. The other

works the overture " In Autumn" and the " Symphony in c" are perhaps a little bit less well known, but no less

wonderful works. The performances are authoratative and worth many hearings.

Arvid O Vollsnes has written the music notes and it also includes short biographies of the soloist, the conductor and the orchestra. Highly recommended. 5/5.
