Another great book by Martha,
This review is from: Autumn Song (Seasons of the Heart) (Paperback)
Autumn Song is book two in the Seasons of the Heart series. I think reading book one before you read this book would be a great idea and would add to the story of Autumn Song but I don't believe that it is absolutely necessary to enjoy this story. At the end of Summer Dream we are left wondering what Daniel Monroe is going to do and as soon as book two begins you realize that Daniel has now packed up and moved is practice to Porterfield Texas to become a lawyer in the West. His friend Seth is a pastor there and has arranged the position for him ahead of time. As soon as Daniel arrives he meets some great friends, including Cory and his beautiful yet very independent and stubborn sister Kathleen. Kathleen has recently decided she wants to pursue studying medicine and helping the local doctor. Sparks begin to fly between Daniel and Kate but most of the sparks are ignited by irritation and anger. Daniel and Kate can't seem to agree on anything, especially what the "normal" women would do for a living or act like. Kate gets frustrated with Daniel's conservative ways and she especially explodes at him when they disagree about what to do with her father's timber. I felt Summer Dream was pretty sweet and innocent and there was not a whole of tension between the main characters, and while I feel Autumn Song is still a sweet story there was definitely a lot more tension and disagreements than book one. I personally enjoy it when there is a love/hate relationship going on between the characters. I enjoyed the banter between Kate and Daniel and I find it more realistic and more humorous than when there is a story when the characters instantly fall in love. Just like in Summer Dream there is a lot of spiritual matter going on in this book but I felt it was a lot less in your face than that book one, which made it more enjoyable to me. This was a book about being confident in whom God made you to be and I also felt like it was a lesson on the importance in taming your tongue. Both Daniel and Kate deal with saying things they regret and I felt this was a good example of how your words can hurt. Just like in book one I was a little frustrated that we had to wait to the very end of the story to see the romance come together and for there to be any kissing or sweet scenes. I just enjoy a story where that begins to happen sooner than the end, but this is all my own preference and may not bother anyone. Autumn Song is still an amazing story that I devoured easily! There is compelling and entertaining characters along with a spiritual message that made this a great Christian Historical Fiction that I highly recommend reading! Disclosure: I was graciously provided a free copy of this book from FIRST Wild Card Tours in exchange for my honest review and opinion. All opinions are my own.

This review is from: Autumn Song (Seasons of the Heart) (Paperback)
Autumn Song is the second book in Seasons of the Heart Series by Martha Rogers. A read that takes us back into the days women getting married at a young age, of men seeking to work and raise a family in a civilized place and of Good God-fearing peoples who followed their hearts.Kate is twenty three and would like to be a nurse not a stay-at-home mother....why can't people understand that she wants to help others? Kate's sister-in-law just can't understand why Kate isn't married at the "old" age of twenty three. Kate tells her that she "does not intend to marry a rancher or anyone connected to cattle."(p.2 Soon after, after Kate meets Daniel, the new lawyer, who is coming to stay at the boardinghouse and practice law in Porterfield. At first, Kate thinks Daniel might be likable but as they continue to talk she comes to the conclusion that he, too, only sees women in a lesser role...this makes her mad and she is determined not to like him. Daniel doesn't know what to make of Kate at times and would really like a sweet wife to settle down with and raise a family. But will he find a girl like that? I great read. Loved the interaction of the characters and the feel of a booming Texas Town in the 1800's. This is more than a read it's like reading a piece of Texas history. Also, I love the verse at the beginning of this book ~ "O sing unto the Lord a new song; sing unto the LORD, all the earth." Psalm 96:1 ~ it describes this book perfectly! *This book was provided for review by Charisma House Publishing/Realms*

Autumn Song,
This review is from: Autumn Song (Seasons of the Heart) (Paperback)
Wow! Autumn Song is a fantastic western, complete with cowboys, ranchers, gunfire in the streets, saloons, horses, and a kidnapping. Of course, there is plenty of romance to satisfy the romantics out there. I fell in love with the characters. Kate and Daniel seem like friends. There is a great cast of supporting characters as well that really helped to round out the novel and provide interesting secondary plotlines. This is the second in the Seasons of the Heart series, and I can't wait to read the rest.I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my fair and honest review.

A sweet and gentle historical romance set in the west with just enough complexity to give it an appealing quality. This is the second book in the Seasons of the Heart series by Martha Rogers.Kate and Daniel are at odds from the beginning. Neither is looking for a spouse. She wants a nursing career. He wants his woman to stay home and raise the babies. How are they going to reconcile their budding attraction to each other? Do they compromise their individual desires? Are they ever going to get along? You'll just have to read the book to find out :) I must say I loved the familial relationships in Kate's family. They are a gregarious bunch when all together and I enjoyed feeling like I was part of their family. I especially loved Aunt Mae and imagined eating all the delicious foods she prepared for her boarders at the boarding house! This book is full of strong women who know how to take care of their families while becoming who God created them to be. It's always fun to read about the old west and when a "city slicker" moves out there. Daniel's from back east where he lived a life of relative ease. He finally has his own law practice and that provides a lot of new experiences for him. Watching him adjust to the ways of the west and those strong women that are bred out there was quite an adventure in itself. While this one didn't pull at my heartstrings like the first one in the series, Summer Dream, it is still up on my list of enjoyable books to read while sitting by a nice cozy fire, sipping from a delicate china teacup of hot mint tea! I can honestly recommend it to all fans of historical fiction. Special thanks to Kim Jones, Publicity Coordinator, Charisma House Charisma Media, for sending me a review copy. I was not required to write a positive one, just express my opinion of the book. No other compensation has been received.

I have been looking forward to reading Autumn Song, ever since finishing Summer Dream, the first book in Martha's Seasons of the Heart series. My hunch was right that Martha would tell us the story of Daniel (who I mistakenly called Rachel's brother in that review post. He was Rachel's almost-boyfriend and Abigail's brother).Although Autumn Song is the second book, it can easily be read as a standalone, following Daniel as he heads to Texas to set up a law practice and meets the Muldoon family, one independent member in particular: beautiful, spirited Kate. I had a hard time connecting with Kate, the main character. Overly spirited and independent women often rub me the wrong way. I read into their lifted chins and stiffened shoulders as disrespectful, and it can be hard for me to like them. Even if they change, I have usually spent most of the book struggling with their character. That can make a book move slowly for me. Autumn Song wasn't bad, but it wasn't a late-night page-turner either; I enjoyed Summer Dream much better. Still, the series itself is promising so far, and I am anxious to give book 3 a chance and see how Abigail fares with the Texas heat and the Muldoon clan! *I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. No other compensation was given, and all thoughts are 100% mine.*

Is She More Than He Can Handle?,

This Mom's ReviewThis is my first book by Martha Rogers. I enjoyed the story. I found that I have done the same thing the main character has in dealing with her unkempt emotions **forgetting to ask forgiveness**. However, the ending is quite amazing in her restoration with her relationship with the Lord, as well as the happy endings for a couple of the characters. I think my favorite character was Aunt Mae because she offered a meal and home to anyone and everyone who needed it. Yes, she had a boardinghouse, but she appeared to have given handouts in times of need. Although this is Book 2 in a series, I didn't feel like I missed any part of the story where this book picked up. At the end of the book is the beginning of Book 3, which I will be watching for! I'm curious to see what happens with the main male character's little sister who just moved to town. ***Special thanks to Kim Jones Publicity Coordinator, Charisma House Charisma Media for sending me a review copy.*** To read the full post, visit ThisMomsDelight.com

Determined & Spunk ~ A Great Mix for a Great Story,
This review is from: Autumn Song (Seasons of the Heart) (Paperback)
I LOVE to read a good book whose main female character has SPUNK.Yup, I said it.. SPUNK. Feisty, Determined, Self Confident.. you know what I mean. And Kathleen Muldoon has SPUNK. This was my first Martha Rogers book review and I really enjoyed her writing. No needing to skim over boring passages or long narratives here. Martha Rogers has written a truly dear and at sometimes funny book about finding the balance between being yourself, who God created you to be, and allowing love into your life at the same time. |
