Editorial Reviews

Review

"I am proud to endorse this much needed compilation of Division I-A's great football stadiums. A splendid job..." -- Coach Vince Dooley, University of Georgia Athletic Director, September 1, 2002

There's no other book available that gives fans so much photography and insight, with a "snapshot" overview of each stadium. -- Paul Maguire, ESPN TV NFL Analyst

From the Publisher

Autumn's Cathedrals was a bold effort on the part of the authors. The Wolfes tirelessly researched the subject and made the commitment to produce the most colorful and interesting book on college football stadiums ever. We looked at the competition and decided to print on a premium paper that would highlight all 117 stadiums in full color glory. The choice of coffee-table sizing allowed the photos to be large enough to depict the grandeur of these bigger-than-life architectural wonders that hold up to 117,000 fans. Each venue received the same treatment and space, no matter how small or out-of-the-way the college.

We felt that this book would make a great gift for family members and friends who are college football fans. No matter what books a fan now owns, Autumn's Cathedrals will be a welcomed addition (probably the centerpiece) to a sports publication collection.(This is the most up-to-date book on college football stadiums)

1.0 out of 5 stars college football fanatic, April 30, 2003

This book was the biggest waste of money. All it did was show a picture and give some trivial facts about each stadium. Amazingly, the description of each stadium was almost identical. I guess all Division 1 stadiums must be the same!!! Anyway, a much better book about stadiums is Cathedrals of College Football, which actually has some meaningful text about each stadium.

5.0 out of 5 stars Autumn's Cathedrals, March 30, 2006

This review is from: Autumn's Cathedrals (Hardcover)
WOW! Great book for sitting back and dreaming. The large photos, from a variety of viewpoints helped me to better visualize the layout and architecture of these grid-iron wonders. Some schools have grand stand shots, some have aerial, some have both full and empty shots. Most schools have several shots and some have old historic photos included. I don't know what the criticism from some of the early reviewers is based on. This book is apparently about stadiums--not fans, not teams, not stats. The authors did a splendid job of creating the most thorough book I've ever seen on the Division 1-A stadiums. The other books only show a few favorite schools or several schools with black and white pictures. This book is oversize and the color pictures go right to the edges of the pages. I have never seen such big pictures, I feel like I'm right there.
The only criticism I have is that Notre Dame is missing a very important past player--Joe Montana. However, being from a small, not so famous conference, I was elated to find a book that included my school, Nevada. All the other books only cover the big, major, popular ones. This is the only book that gave equal treatment of all of them. Thank you for such a thoughtfully executed book. When is the next edition coming out?

2.0 out of 5 stars Extreemly Disappointing!, May 8, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Autumn's Cathedrals (Hardcover)
As a college football fanatic, I could hardly wait to get my new book for the coffee table, but I have been disappointed since the moment I opened it. First, the pictures are of very poor quality (grainy in many cases) and are not at all engaging. Some photos depict an empty stadium shot from many feet above! To make matters worse, the description that accompanies each stadium is very mundane. If you want a book to flip through once, then this may be for you. If you desire a book that emanates the college football spirit, I would recommened looking elsewhere.
