a trip back thru time only to emerge in the future, December 18, 2009
By Vince Lucie "Vince" (CT, USA) - See all my reviews As a young man coming of age in the 1960's (something I treasure to this day) there are many iconic entities to choose from when discussing the era. Some are so well known that even two generations later their fame is widespread (mass appeal icons, if you will)...it was that kind of an era. You cannot make that claim for Eric Andersen's lp/cd AVALANCHE...well, maybe you cannot but I most certainly can and do... I consider it to be one of my favorite lp's from an era rife with great music and I hold it up to any of the well known icons. The humor of 'An Old Song' contrasts with the apocalyptic tension of 'It's Coming And It Won't Be Long' (possibly very timely in this age we live in); and the self-evaluating 'Avalanche' is a joy to hear. I have seen Eric live in the past. The most memorable concert was at the Gaslight in The Village back in '71 when he shared the bill with S. David Cohen nee David Blue. My buddy Steve and I still recall that wonderful set to this day. Eric is like an old friend who's voice is soothing to my ears. Rock on Eric. |
