5.0 out of 5 stars Raging, sinister, yet cute?, August 5, 2005

This review is from: Avalanche (Audio CD)
Some Velvet Sidewalk. I read in Alternative Press once, that this is what Metallica should sound like. While it doesn't quite fit the band's sound-it kind of makes sense. This album is insanely good. It is filled with raw screaming, pounding drum and bass riffs, and a guitar that has no limits. It actually is a tad scary in places. "Alien" and "No Real Home" are primal and intense. Then, there are the songs like "Curiosity" and "Peach"-simple, and almost juvenile in a way. yet totally approachable and universal. Al was a genius-it's really too bad that SVS weren't discovered by the grunge set-but then again, that's part of what makes them unique and special, I suppose.

A final highlight is the album closer-the lengthy, ultimate driving song, "Ice Cream Headache". Put this on and hit the road-that bass riff will keep you going for a long time.

This album, simply put, rocks. If you are looking for something different and maybe a bit weird (imagine the biggest high school dweeb kicking the crap out of the football quarterback, you kind of get the appeal here, I think)-definitely check these guys out. They were amazing (you can only imagine how good they were live!!).
