Product Description

Editorial Review

Future (or current!) business tycoons--hone your skills and get ready to play Avalon Hill's game of corporate acquisitions. The object of Acquire is to amass wealth in the form of hotel chains and valuable stock. Two to six players draw hotel tiles that correspond to specific locations on the game board. By playing these tiles strategically, players create chains and purchase stock. The action becomes feverish as players buy, trade, and sell shares and compete to create adjacent chains and corporate mergers. By the end of the game (about 75 minutes), one of two things must happen: either all chains on the board are safe from potential mergers, or one chain contains 41 or more hotels. Then bonuses are paid, all stock is sold, and the player with the most money wins. A Games magazine Hall of Fame award winner, this is an entertaining, low-complexity strategic game that is fairly quick and easy to learn and offers a chance to outwit your fellow players and build your own empire. --Tami Horiuchi

From the Manufacturer

You can't pick up a newspaper without reading about one company merging with another to form a more powerful corporate giant. We noticed this trend and that's why we created an updated version of this classic. Acquire the premiere game of acquisitions and mergers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Strategic Game Ever Made, June 2, 2008
By
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Acquire (Toy)
Simply put, it's the best strategic game made. Little is based on luck (certain pieces will help, but everyone get's a pretty even share) and the rest is based on strategy. A little like risk, but without the luck of the dice. Another great aspect of it, is unlike some of the other games, there are numerous way you can win. Some will try and get the most stock in the biggest chain, some will nickle and dime there way to the finish, and still others with ride a hotel chain for three to four takeovers.

I only have the older versions bought on ebay, but I will be getting one from amazon shortly. If you like a game that will not last over an hour, allow all players to finish at the same time, and be difficult enough to hold your attention game after game for years to come, then buy Acquire.

4.0 out of 5 stars A remake of the classic, but with less durability, August 26, 2008

I loved the game in its original form, and do not think it has improved because of its modernizations. However, since the original is not generally available, this game serves its purpose well. It's fun, it does not take long to teach. My ten year old learned the game well after a couple of run throughs.

A good strategy game aims for a balance between realism and playability. Acquire does quite well.
