5.0 out of 5 stars All That Glitters
This book was GREAT! Emily is still my favorite, than Kara, than Adrianne. Having another book in the series that focouses on another girl changes what I see in them (My fovorites used to be Emily, Adrienne, Kara). It shows Kara and Adrienne fighting a lot, and Emily is still the peacemaker. Kara FINALLY finds a jem (a unicorn jewel), but that's when the trouble starts...

3.0 out of 5 stars Hmmmm
I found this book o.k. I really don't get why the most unlikeable character in the series is the most powerful. She is a snobby brat(in my opinion). Others may find her interesting. Kara's snobbiness doesn't mess with the good plot, though. However, I would have much preferred that Adriane or Emily were the heroine, as they are much more nice. I can relate to them...

It shows Kara and Adrienne fighting a lot, and Emily is still the peacemaker. Kara FINALLY finds a jem (a unicorn jewel), but that's when the trouble starts. Minature Dragons start popping up and adoring Kara, Banshee's try to take the jewel, and fry Kara's hair, but her magic turns it RAINBOW instead. And water faeriementals warn of danger. Plus, you see Kara torn between her friends Tiffany, Heather, and Molly and Ravenswod. But that's not all! Kara bonds with a magical cat named Lyra, and has a dangerous encounter with the Dark Sorceress herself....

5.0 out of 5 stars AWSOME, February 18, 2002
A Kid's Review
I don't get into reading too much, but I read the first book and now this one and I am officially hooked. I have started the third book now and can't wait for the fourth to be released. What a wonderful series for kids my age. The characters are great in this book. So real to me. I love how each story has a different girl for the main character.

4.0 out of 5 stars More like four and a half stars, January 17, 2002

I like the second book and all, but it's about Kara and she's a bit annoying. Now that that's out of the way...
Kara wants a jewel just like Adriane and Emily's, so when she finds the unicorn Jewel she's stoaked. Kara has tons of problems once she finds the jewel: banshees stalk her, pesky dragonflies, way(and I mean way)too much hair that isn't just blonde. But with Kara falling in love with the magic is she risking becoming too much like the evil sorceress that seems to have a strange connection Kara herself? everything the first book has (expect for a modest heroine).

5.0 out of 5 stars Karas Personality, August 29, 2003
By
If you read the first book and shudder whenever the name Kara is mentioned, you might rethink that after reading this book.

In the first book it focused manily on Emily, while in this book it focuses on Kara. You don't find out what Karas magic is yet (You do in Book 6), but you might find a newfound respect for her after the book is over. Ok, maybe not. But you'll probably at least like her a LITTLE bit more. And the dragonflies were so cute! I can't see how anyone can think of them as annoying. Plus, you get to see some "new" characters, which includes Lyra(The cat from book 1),the Dark Sorceress, the dragonflies, and the unicorn which makes a reapearence in book 6

The reason I gave it 5 stars was because it shows Kara developing her personality more then just a shallow brat. It's more action-like then the first one, so hurry up and read it!

My daughter has struggled with learning how to read. She is 11 and reads at about a fifth grade level. She has consistently been at least one grade level behind and would become very frustrated when asked to read. This is the first book series she has ever read completely on her own! She loves the first three and has been begging to get the rest. I have placed a pre-order on the last three. I can't comment on the story much beyond the fact that she raves about it, but any book that helps my daughter discover a love for reading deserves 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars From a long time fan, March 6, 2007

Alright, I'll give this book a bit more credit than most. I agree with alot of people saying karak, the protagonist for this book, is a bit too much like a queen. But then again we have to remember where shew comes from. Kara is the Mayor's daughter and always got what she wanted until she met people who opposed her, aka Adriane and Emily. In this book Kara starts off seeking power to spite the other two, but as the book moves along you can tell some chaaracter development, which was really needed in this series for her.
This book wasn't my favorite out of the series, but it made way for an even better story and more rounded characters. In book 3, cry of the wold, kara is evedentily more mature due to what had happened in the last book.
For me, this book was a bit boring because there was no really big magical catastrophe, or at least it didn't seem like it while reading, but it did allow for some major characterization which, in the end, turnedout to be better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad...., May 9, 2006
Well it was ok but... well Kara sorta acts all the Queen of the world and stuff which I think is a little ennoying but it was still an excellent book to read and caught my attention. Kara meeets with a felione cat Lyra, gets a jewel.. not reallly but later on in the series, and the mages finally see the Dark Sorceress. Ohh ya I tried to go on Avlonclubhouse but what do you know it didn't work which bis really odd. Instead it showed this Go Daddy thing! Figures anyways buy this book people that depends if you like Kara but if you don't then you may not.

This book really caught my attention. It was probably my favorite so far. It was hard to finish it. It was very interesting and amazing and I could picture what was happening in the book perfectly. It's very good and I suggest reading it.
