5.0 out of 5 stars press button at top of crown to open
I'm embarrassed to say I couldn't figure out how to open it, so this is for anyone else with the same problem. Just press the top of the crown. It should have said so in the instructions for anyone new to pocket watches. So far I really like the watch though.

2.0 out of 5 stars Broke right after purchase
While the watch itself is running fine, the cover broke just 2 weeks after purchase. The limited warranty that comes with it was ambiguous and I didn't want to send $8.25 to just an address with no phone number. I took it to a local watch repair and they were unable to fix it.

An excellent timepiece, for everydaybuse, wind once every 24 hours, or as I do, 9-11 winds at morning coffee.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice watch, June 9, 2009

Hey... I like the watch... great shipping (there days form New York to the mountains in California....(

Be advised.... it is so much fun looking at the clock works that it kinda gets hard to tell time... the hands are kinda thin.... so you do get lost looking at the clock works and don't read the numbers.....

If you are looking for something to tell time.. sure it works...

If you want to see the insides of a watch, and can ignore or look at it differently... It is a nice watch......

All in all....

I'm happy with it ....

This pocket watch is gorgeous to look upon, and my coworkers were impressed when I brandished it for the first time. Unfortunately, the problems began to present themselves quickly.
After less than a week of ownership, it had stopped three times at (almost) full wind. The first time (the second day of ownership) it was fully wound in the morning and after about 2 hours it stopped. I fiddled with the crown and it started again, only to stop after about 2 hours. Then it worked flawlessly for three days. Then, I had it fully wound at 7am and set with the correct time, only to discover that at 9am it was reading 8:30, meaning it had stopped for a while at some point. Long story short, the movement is just defective.
In addition to the movement having defects, the hinge had become very noisy during opening and closing, producing a clicking and squeaking sound.

I can't say if this was a "bad apple" or if the brand just specializes in low-quality merchandise, but I can say that the overall package felt way below its price range to just call it manufacturer defect. I returned this watch and purchased a similar one from a different manufacturer and the difference in quality is night-and-day.
