This is a great movie, and the soundtrack is arguably better. It's some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard. Tough to find it seems. Get it while you can!

When this movie first came out, I heard a commercial for it on TV that immediately caught my attention. It was this exquisite piano/flute melody ("Moving Day" on the CD) that grabbed me from what ever I was doing at the time and pulled me in. I later found the soundtrack CD in the budget bin at my local music store and grabbed it. It remains one of my favorite scores to this day. Every track is wonderful. I played "Avalon/Moving Day" again as I wrote this and it still moves me like magic. Do yourself a favor and add this to your collection.

It is impossible to not be moved by this soundtrack. I loved the movie, and the music was perfect in its melancholiness, which powerfully reflected the story. Still, the soundtrack is a gem all to its own. Randy Newman continues to amaze.

Randy Newman deserved an Oscar this year for this score. He was nominated, but also for "Awakenings", admittedly similarly melancholy, yet singularly beautiful in its own right. The two nominations undoubtedly cancelled each other out. This music transports the listener. Absolutely perfect and lovely.

The review above is actually for a completely different soundtrack by Kenji Kawai. This soundtrack is for the 1990 Barry Levinson film, not the 2001 sci fi film. That being said, it is a very good disk.
