4.0 out of 5 stars Hmmmm. Okay.
Well, this is probably my least favorite book in the series. We don't find out all that much, though it is important because Kara accidentally opens the path to Avalon, or so a mysteroius e-mail from long-lost wizard Henry Gardener says.

This book was anything but boring, and was still an excellent read (I loved the song lyrics that were everywhere--no, I'm...

the book wasn't exactly my taste. I've always liked Adriane.(I guess "like" isn't exactly right. I guess obsessed would do it.) But Kara and Adriane leared to like each other and trust each other.I noticed that Emily wasn't in the book a lot, either. Nor the animals of Ravenswood.

This book was anything but boring, and was still an excellent read (I loved the song lyrics that were everywhere--no, I'm not being sarcastic, the music is awesome!!!), but the plot was...I dunno. You see, Kara's being dragged under a spell somehow, and it's making her do some not-so-good things. I just don't like that. And Kara's not exactly my favorite character, anyhow.

Still, it's an excellent story--just not the best in a wonderful series.

4.0 out of 5 stars People you really need to chill, January 17, 2006
Out all these reviews i read many people gave this book a bad review you really need to chill! Seroisly its just a book and I found it exciting and through every chapter it was intresting. Like I can understand that she took Emily's horn and all and she had no control of herslef when she was in the spell!
It was basically about the mages having a rock concert to benifent ravenswood and kara has booked two bands but one of the bands dont show up. This jhonny conrad knows alot about the mages and hangs around kara alot and doesnt seem so good. Later the mages banish him in a portal.
the only thing that bugged me was when she took Emily's horn and how betraying she was to her friends so next time in the rest of the series I hope she won't be like that.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Major Disapointment, August 29, 2003

And I was actually starting to like Kara.

If you like Kara, you might not after this book. She gets way to
obsessed with this singer and lies, cheats, cuts classes, and steals. You do get a decent amount of foreshadowing but Karas acts make that not matter so much. Kara and Adrienne get into a big fight (what else is new) and ruins the whole book.

I gave it three stars because the shapeshifter is important for the next book, and it does ok foreshadoiwing. I hope later books can make up for the way Kara acts.

4.0 out of 5 stars From a long time fan, March 7, 2007

(REAL NAME)
Alright, Book 5 has always been my least favorite of the books, mostly because Adriane is so out of character, and the spellsinging things comes out of nowhere and is basically like "oh hey, i think i wanna write about musical magic before moving back to the main plot and because i somehow need to resolve the issue with mrs.wisdor"
But, as i said before this wan't my fav book, but i will still give it some credit because it shows how much kara has grown since books 1 and 2. For some reason, the author like makign the books about kara the ones that advance the characterization of the characters, and leaves out the major magic stuff. I think that is part of the reason why there are so many kara-haters out there is because, she isn't magical like the other girls are. She may be portrayed as snotty, but those people who think that's how she really is needs to re-read the books and watch the character development and see how Kara instigates it and, if not for her, the other two would be bland, and not have such a magical contrast that makes the story wonderful.
Just think that over while reading this book. Like I said, it wasn't my fav, but it was definately needed for character development and for a little plot advancement (though nothing like book 3). And besides, you get to look forward to book 6, which gwts back on track with the exciting magical mayhem!

2.0 out of 5 stars Worst book Ever!!!!!!!!!, November 10, 2005
A Kid's Review
Ok well this book SUCKED!!! It's all about baribie kara. I was actully at first thinking Kara wasn't that bad for a character but beacause of this book now I think shes not a good character anymore. This book made me got really dissapionted. I really like the series and I will still continue reading the series but if she is going to steal Emily's horn AGAIN then I might as well not read anymore books about Kara.

3.0 out of 5 stars My least favorite!!!, October 6, 2004
A Kid's Review
This book is NOT a good book. There is not enough magic and the main center of the book is Kara. That already puts it down in the marking. Kara just doesn't have the right to act like she is the Queen of the world. The only reason why I gave it three stars is because the ending is ok. Key word: OK.

3.0 out of 5 stars The book was great, but it never makes Adriane look good., July 11, 2003
A Kid's Review
Kara became such a selfish brat when she takes a unicorn horn that was not given to her and betrays friends to win a contest and the attention of a hot (singer). I also didn't like them giving away hints about Avalon, if they keep it from their own parents, why tell it to the town?
I also don't like that most of the books center Kara. I mean Adriane is a way better mage than that (barbie)!

5.0 out of 5 stars Avolon : Spell singer, June 29, 2009
A Kid's Review
I'm an avid reader of This series so I Know the characters.I really liked it but it wasn't the best. The scenes when Kara was under the spell were a little dragged out but nicely detailed. Even though it wasn't the best I'm still looking forward to Book 6 Trial by fire. (-;
