This is great!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Avalon (Audio CD)
I first heard Avalon when I went to see the Emmanuel Tour in 1996. When they stepped out to sing "Angels We Have Heard On High", MAN! I wanted their album. My favorites are "Let It Be Forever", "Saviour Love", "Jesus Is Lord", and "This Love". They are truly wonderful, and I hope God blesses them on. Great job!

Infectious vocals, honest lyrics, good melodies,

Vocal quartets are making a big comeback in pop music. The "alternative thing" of the late '80's and early '90's about did away with them. Avalon arrived on the scene in 1996 with a surprisingly polished sound complete with strong vocals, excellent harmonies, solid lyrical content, and catchy melodies. If you spend any time at all reading up on the individuals who make up Avalon, you will be impressed with how closely they live and identify with the songs they sing. This honesty and vunerability is one reason why they are so endeared and respected. The group does not take themselves or their success too seriously. Like most of us real people, they are down-to-earth, realistic, and humble about the whole thing. Of the four big hits from this debut, the first, "Give It Up," is a wonderfully honest song about struggling with a relationship with God. "This Love" is more upbeat in speed and not as introspective as the opener. Establishing a Godly legacy is the theme of "The Greatest Story" - it is a beautifully sung ballad. The mid-tempo pop of "Picture Perfect World" describes how the world is not perfect, but if it were, there would be some differences. The remainder of the CD keeps on track with Godly themes and safe ground stylisticly. The almost completely acappella cover of the hymn "My Jesus, I Love Thee" may be the prettiest song on the album, and it truly showcases the vocal talent of the foursome. The soulful rendition of Andrae Crouch's "Jesus is Lord" provides excellent puncuation to a solid debut effort. The strength of this CD stands upon the group's desire to honestly convey the love of Jesus. Combined with good song writing, talented musicians, and terrific vocal talent, Avalon impresses on their first time out.

Taking that this was their first cd, of course it wouldn't be as good as the next two, but it sure got them off to a great start! "Give it up" I like the beginning to this one. It has a great beat. I'd say #2. Great message. "This love" not much on this song "The greatest story" This is a very pretty one. I'll have to put it as #4. Gotta love the lyrics. "Picture perfect world" This is #1! I love this song! Avalon sounds great on it. "Don't be afraid" Very pretty song "Here to deliver" I don't really care for this one. But if you like upbeat, then this is it. "Let it be forever" Like the title to this one and the beginning. Nice vocals. "My Jesus, i love Thee" Taken from an old hymn, this song is very good. Avalon takes it and does wonders with it. "Saviour love" not much to this song "Jesus is Lord" Heres #3. Great gospel sound to it. Good beat and vocals.
