Good beat and vocals.

I appreciate that they don't dilute or shy away from their purpose in the lyrics- you know exactly where they are coming from and what they believe!

It has a good message to give to Christians of all denominations!

I first heard Avalon when I went to see the Emmanuel Tour in 1996. When they stepped out to sing "Angels We Have Heard On High", MAN! I wanted their album. My favorites are "Let It Be Forever", "Saviour Love", "Jesus Is Lord", and "This Love". They are truly wonderful, and I hope God blesses them on. Great job!

Vocal quartets are making a big comeback in pop music. The "alternative thing" of the late '80's and early '90's about did away with them. Avalon arrived on the scene in 1996 with a surprisingly polished sound complete with strong vocals, excellent harmonies, solid lyrical content, and catchy melodies.
If you spend any time at all reading up on the individuals who make up Avalon, you will be impressed with how closely they live and identify with the songs they sing. This honesty and vunerability is one reason why they are so endeared and respected. The group does not take themselves or their success too seriously. Like most of us real people, they are down-to-earth, realistic, and humble about the whole thing.
Of the four big hits from this debut, the first, "Give It Up," is a wonderfully honest song about struggling with a relationship with God. "This Love" is more upbeat in speed and not as introspective as the opener. Establishing a Godly legacy is the theme of "The Greatest Story" - it is a beautifully sung ballad. The mid-tempo pop of "Picture Perfect World" describes how the world is not perfect, but if it were, there would be some differences.
The remainder of the CD keeps on track with Godly themes and safe ground stylisticly. The almost completely acappella cover of the hymn "My Jesus, I Love Thee" may be the prettiest song on the album, and it truly showcases the vocal talent of the foursome. The soulful rendition of Andrae Crouch's "Jesus is Lord" provides excellent puncuation to a solid debut effort.
The strength of this CD stands upon the group's desire to honestly convey the love of Jesus. Combined with good song writing, talented musicians, and terrific vocal talent, Avalon impresses on their first time out.

Taking that this was their first cd, of course it wouldn't be as good as the next two, but it sure got them off to a great start!
"Give it up" I like the beginning to this one. It has a great beat. I'd say #2. Great message.
"This love" not much on this song
"The greatest story" This is a very pretty one. I'll have to put it as #4. Gotta love the lyrics.
"Picture perfect world" This is #1! I love this song! Avalon sounds great on it.
"Don't be afraid" Very pretty song
"Here to deliver" I don't really care for this one. But if you like upbeat, then this is it.
"Let it be forever" Like the title to this one and the beginning. Nice vocals.
"My Jesus, i love Thee" Taken from an old hymn, this song is very good. Avalon takes it and does wonders with it.
"Saviour love" not much to this song
"Jesus is Lord" Heres #3. Great gospel sound to it. Good beat and vocals.

I've played this cd so much, I'm surprised it still sounds good- I'm so thankful for technology, because if I'd been listening to the tape it would be destroyed by now! Every song on their debut is fantastic; when I put the cd in my kids rejoice! I appreciate that they don't dilute or shy away from their purpose in the lyrics- you know exactly where they are coming from and what they believe! An auditory treat for anyone who likes good music, flawless harmonies and a strong Christian message.

This cd has lifted my spirits so many times. I start my Day off with it every day the first 2 songs are so upbeat and just right on "The greatest story ever told" How wonderful and their voices blend wo well together it's like angels. I don't think anyone would be sorry for buying this Cd and anyone who buys it and loves it can thank me later.

I honestly first listened to this CD when it had just been released several years back ( in '94 or '95?). It is not as fast paced or vivid as the latest CDs that they have released, but what drew me to this group was their awesome talent in harmony and energy. It is a group that has definitely succeeded in bringining the Christian community a fresh view of the Christian faith.

I bought several Avalon albums and have enjoyed and been blessed by every one of them. When I ordered this CD I did not realize that it was their first release, so I was pleasantly surprised at the professionalism and polish of these songs.

All four vocalists use their voices beautifully and they blend amazingly when they harmonize.

Their first track is so profound and reminds us that God hates luke warm Christianity and would rather we be 'hot' or 'cold'. The lyrics of 'Give It Up' very clearly states that it cannot be halfway devotion or torn emotions but that God expects our all, as His love has the power to heal, it has the power to put us back together and we need to give Him 'all of our heart'

My favourite track is 'The Greatest Story Ever Told'. The concept they use here is our lives should refect the greatest story ever told and this reminds me of Paul's Letter where he says that we should be 'living epistles of Christ'.

Every song on this album is beautifully sung and the music is music for the soul.. Their rendition of one of my favourite hymns 'My Jesus, I love Thee' is absolutely the most wonderfully put together song and their voices do it more then justice.

'Saviour Love' is a reminder that God pursues us to the point where we need to sacrifice all to Him and, only then, do we find that we are the pursuers of God. The last track 'Jesus Is Lord' reminds us that we should proclaim that 'He was bruised for our iniquties and was wounded for our transgressions and, because of His sacrifice. we know that He is Lord of Lords and King of Kings.

Great album from a great group of singers and musicians. You would not be sorry if you bought it!!
