Lots of Problems - Error in Amazon Listing,
By
This review is from: System Suite 9 Professional (CD-ROM)
I am a fan of SystemSuite, have used Version 7 and Version 8, and have found them both to be better than either McAffee's or Symantech's comparable products. But my recent attempt to upgrade to Version 9 was an unmitigated disaster. My system (running Windows 2000) froze up and would not shut down after installing the upgrade. When I removed Version 9 everything ran fine again. I contacted customer support who had me download Version 9 again, claiming the file was probably corrupted. This time my computer did not hang up at shutdown, but instead ran glacially slow. When I tried to remove Version 9 again I could not. Avanquest had me use the Window Uninstaller utility, but it did not work either. I had to manually delete all the files, except 5 .dll files that I could not remove. I tried downloading Version 9 again and ran into the same problems. I eventually reinstalled Version 8 (which I thankfully still had hanging around with the serial number) and used it to clean up all the junk created by Version 9. Avanquest has not come up with any explanation for me yet, but I'm guessing there is a problem running it with Windows 2000. My recommendation would be that if you have Version 8 and are satisfied with it, renew your antivirus subscription, but do not upgrade to Version 9.
Update: Although not originally remarked upon by the Avanquest support staff, I recently learned from them that SystemSuite 9 is not compatible with Windows 2000. The Amazon listing indicating that it is for Windows 2000/XP/Vista is in error.

Little value over SS8,
By
This review is from: System Suite 9 Professional (CD-ROM)
I spent all weekend "upgrading" from SS8.
None of the previous settings from SS8 carried forward that I could tell. You must uninstall SS8 first. The so-called "Internet Speed Improver" has done something to my FireFox that I'm unable to correct. After opening 2 or 3 tabs, FireFox takes around 5 or 10 mins to refresh or load every web page. Shutting down FireFox and restarting is only way to get back to normal; then it repeats in few minutes. Awful! The Jet Defrag encounters errors and stops. I did all the drive checking first; makes no difference unless I re-boot. Other defrag programs all work fine. SS9 has problems(?) "Comprehensive One Click" took over 6 hours to run.(Whiskey Tango Foxtrot??!!) Temp file cleanup only finds IE files; no FireFox or Chrome files. Anyone who has SS8 and is OK with it should NOT waste time / money on SS9.

Created Numerous Issues,
By
This review is from: System Suite 9 Professional (CD-ROM)
System Suite 9 has created numerous issues with Windows XP Professional, however, the software remains installed on my system. After a very difficult installation, this Suite destroyed numerous short cuts on my desktop, my computer is slow to shut down, the Suite created a msimn.exe error in Outlook Express with a faulting module oecomm.dll, Easy Update doesn't work-everytime I use this function, the entire Suite reinstalls itself, etc. I am reluctant to reinstall System Suite 8 (still have the original disk and authorization code) as I may end up with "something worse" than I already have, due to the fact that Suite 9 may have created "unfixable" errors. Was just wondering weather or not if anyone had/has any issues after reinstalling System Suite 8? According to the manufacturer, "they" will end support for the previous versions of System Suite by the end of 2009. I have used the previous versions of System Suite without any issues. There has to be something better than System Suite 9 in the market place as I will no longer purchase future versions of System Suite.

A Pleasant Surprise,
By jurgfella (Boston, MA USA) - See all my reviews

Back in November of 2006 I delivered a scathing review of System Suite 2007, which had caused both blue screen memory crashes and, after a rebuild of Windows, regular crashes of the background task server. This was a disappointment because V-Com, the erstwhile maker of System Suite, used to deliver rock-solid products. I continued to use SystemSuite for its utilities, but uninstalled both the anti-virus/anti-spyware and the firewall modules, which were the source of the problem. The rest of the program worked fine.
Over time I upgraded to System Suite 9. Recently I had to stop using Norton Anti-Virus, which was causing a conflict with other parts of my system. So, with some trepidation, I installed the anti-virus/anti-spyware and firewall modules from System Suite 9, to see how those would work in this addition. The results have been a pleasant surprise. First of all, System Suite no longer uses Trend Micro for its antivirus, but has switched over to Sunbelt Software's VIPRE anti-virus. Sunbelt is a relative newcomer to the scene, but has received good reviews in PC Magazine. On my system, the deep scan found several trojan horse programs that Norton Antivirus had missed. The System Suite Firewall has also detected and prevented port scans of my system from leading to my computer being compromised. For this I give them high marks. System Suite also comes with a plethora of useful utilities, the most useful of which, for me, is the ability to set a checkpoint (a more robust version of setting a Windows restoration point), which can roll back your system to an earlier system state, especially in the case of the installation of a rogue piece of software. My only complaint with System Suite so far is that some of the modules (like the cleanup module) run very slowly and take a long time. But so far System Suite 9 has been a pleasant surprise.

We use System Suite 9 daily to maintain and clean up all of our PC's and laptops. It does a great job in all of its functions and is a useful software for upkeep of computers.

System Suite 9 Professional
Very poor indeed and sad too, as I have used Ver4, 5, and 6 with good luck. None of the previous settings from SS6 carried forward that I could tell. You must uninstall SS6 first but the uninstaller fails. You can not get the dll's off because one or two of the exe's are still running, I think as a service, as I finally removed all of ver 6 by starting with all my services shut off, (Use msconfig) and then deleted all I could find. The so-called "Internet Speed Improver" does something to my IE, good thing it has an undo! After opening 2 or 3 tabs, IE takes around 5 or 10 minutess to refresh or load every web page. The Jet Defrag encounters errors and stops. I did all the drive checking first; makes no difference but the MS defrag program works fine. Temp file cleanup only finds IE files; no Safari that I can see. No one who has SS8 and is OK with it should waste time / money on SS9. I got mine as a free upgrade and that is about what it is worth but only if you know what you are doing. SS9 has problems.

You need to know what you are doing!!,
This review is from: System Suite 9 Professional (CD-ROM)
I have used system suite 5,6,7,8 and 9 since they started it.
I have a computer business and have been in the trade for 22 years now. Please understand something about system suite. It is VERY comprehensive and you need to know what you are doing when installing it. When I install this for my clients, I make sure to run sfc /scannow, make sure no spyware is present and of course virus free. Some of my clients call me back and they tried to do an upgrade by them selves and it failed. I then did it for them and it all went perfect. Norton, Mcafee and such programs are horrible and I take them off the PC immediately. If you get system suite 9 pro, pay attention to all the details when installing. This software will defrag not only your Hard drive, but your windows registry as well as your boot files. And for the person with windows 2000, I would say that that is such an old non supported OS that I am not surprised that it didn't work out for you, being a 10 year old OS. My clients love the one touch botton to clean and fix everything. It is a good software and yes, it is good to be a pro when you use it. For the very best free anti virus, get Avira antivir!! Just google it, it nails everything that shows up!!

Glad I didn't review this before I purchased.,

I thought my computer died, my thoughts ran amuck in my head. Oh my gosh, I lost pictures, itunes, what am I going to do?! The only thing my computer displayed was something about a configuration file was corrupt or missing, and to insert windows cd and attempt to repair the damage. Hello! Who keeps those disks? I don't but I guess I'd better. Anyways the computer was practically dead and didn't do a thing so I knew I was in trouble. I went off to buy this and crossed my fingers. The only other choice I had was to buy the whole windows xp program which is like $200 so I bought this instead. I put it in and walla. I clicked recovery command or something like that followed the prompts, I was able to restore it to a previous point and rebooted and presto. Good as new.

Vicious Activation System, Frequently Errs,
By Confederate (Bethesda, MD) - See all my reviews
This review is from: System Suite 9 Professional (CD-ROM)
One, this suite will not fix any serious problem with your computer, so it won't save you $$$ by fixing weird behavior. Second, it (like all Avanquest products) has a wicked little activation program. I've had bum errors from Fix-It and PowerQuest saying my serial numbers were already in use, when they were only on my system. Oh, and just try calling them, my little dearie! Just try! They'll get YOU and your little dog, too! They've got all the time in the world and support is horrible. You learn this when you get an error message, get directed to the Support page and then there's nothing the search engine can find that relates to it.
