5.0 out of 5 stars Great looking bird feeder.
This is a great looking bird feeder. It attracts a variety of small and large birds, and holds enough food for about a week in my yard.

I made the mistake of thinking the bars would make it squirrel proof, but it isn't in the least. In fact, they have figured out how to jump to the feeder and wedge their entire bodies inside the bars! Impressively acrobatic,...

This is a nice looking bird feeder....and it keeps the squirrels at bay. But beware...in about 6 months the pretty panes of glass (the roof) will fall off. The birds will still come, but the pretty part is no more.

Impressively acrobatic, but very annoying. I finally moved the bird feeder to another spot because they were bending the bars and it was just a matter of time before they completely destroyed it.

So, I definitely recommend this bird feeder, but make sure you put it in a place where the squirrels can't reach it, or they will break it for sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty and sturdy, December 9, 2006

I've had this feeder for about 5-6 years. It is very pretty and it does keep out squirrels and large birds. The finches, wrens and smallest woodpeckers can fit through the bars. Birds are safe from the neighborhood cats. It holds enough seed to last a few days. The feeder has held up well and the only noticeable wear is on the metal lid where the protective coating has peeled off a bit. That is understandable as it has withstood rain, snow, high winds and scorching sun for several years. None of the panes has broken, discolored or loosened. Even the hanging wire is like new. I paid over $60 for this feeder and highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty But Not Perfect, October 13, 2008
This review is from: Avant Garden 8102-2 English Garden Bird Feeder (Lawn & Patio)
The glass roof pieces on mine surprisingly are a variated sky blue, not orange. Nevertheless, still pretty - but it would have been nice to have a color choice.

I purchased this on October 6, 2008 for $14.23 from Amazon (no shipping fee since I ordered something else to meet the $25 minimum requirement). I guess they must have had a special sale going. So for that cheap price, I am very pleased - it is worth more than that.

The feeder was in good condition but arrived dusty - no big deal to me, but if your order is intended as a gift, just wanted you to be aware of that.

The reason I only give 4 stars is because I am going to have to do something to keep the lid of the feeding tube closed - it does not screw or clamp down so tends to pop open very easily. So I have not begun to use mine yet. The box says it holds 1.25 lbs of sunflower or mixed seed and "Durable metal cage with rust resistant finish discourages squirrels and larger birds." I have large Fox Squirrels where I live so am not sure if they can squeeze in between the bars or not, but I will place it where it will be hard for the squirrels to reach or I will use a squirrel baffle if necessary.

*This is pretty enough to purchase to use as a decorative item for your porch, garden or sun room and not even use as a birdfeeder at all. Ivy wrapping around it could add a nice touch.

nice, like the glass, bottom could be better to save seed from dropping, but i'm sure the birds will love it.

This is a very nice and a very attractive bird feeder. Small capacity so you have to refill it often. The only ting negative is that the wire it hangs by moves easily so that the feeder tilts a bit. You have to adjust it every time you fill it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lovely bird feeder - shipping condition not so lovely, June 15, 2010

This is a lovely bird feeder, but when we received it there was very little padding in the box and one of the bars was bent. Luckily, my husband was able to bend the bar back into position without damaging it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pretty but useless against squirrels, June 2, 2009

I have actually bought 2 of these feeders for my mom who loves to feed her birds.

The first one I bought many years ago and it did okay for a while until the squirrels figured out that they could chew through the bars holding the glass, which would cause the glass to shatter on the patio and leave a big gaping hole into the feeder.

The 2nd one did even last 2 months after purchase. The build quality was definitely shabbier than the first one with the bars being made of softer metal. It was no match for the squirrels. I definitely would not purchase another given the "bionic" feats of my mom's squirrels.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lucky mistake, December 29, 2007

Very cute bird feeder, but the one we received had blue glass, not orange! Nowhere on the product page is it indicated that you will be shipped a random color, and not the one shown on the photo, so it was quite a surprise.

Thankfully, the person the feeder was meant for likes blue, so she didn't mind a bit. It's still a nice feeder and perfect for the sparrows and finches she likes to attract.
