Book Description

June 30, 2004
The Avatar is a novel set in the United States in 1993. It tells the story of a man who claims to be God incarnate. He is of such an overwhelming presence that, eventually, millions across the world come to worship him. This phenomenon shakes the foundations of the religious and political establishments of the world to such an extent that some corners conclude that this man must be killed. Various forces converge into a fast-moving, intricate plot that is not resolved until the last page of the story.

About the Author

Terry Ray began life in a small, four-room house within the shadows of a Western Pennsylvania steel mill where his father worked. He was formed by the tough and gritty mill town culture where sports and fighting were the primary marks of distinction. Getting into college on an athletic scholarship, Terry dropped out after his freshman year and spent the following year, alone, wandering Europe. Finally graduating during the Vietnam era, Terry trained as an Air Force pilot and was eventually discharged as a disabled veteran. He became an elementary school teacher, graduated law school, worked as a trial attorney, as a radio talk show host, as a regular on a morning television show, ran for the U.S. Congress and lost, became a university professor, a theater actor and director, a performing singer, an accomplished watercolor artist, and a skilled carpenter. Terry is married, has eight children and four grandchildren. The Avatar is his first novel.

This is a great book. Dr. Ray is a professor at the college I attend. For his first book, this is a great work. If you are into controversial items or anything regarding religion, this is for you. Highly recommended.
