Avatar: The Last Airbender is a great cartoon. While it may appear to be a "anime" type cartoon at first glance, it is in fact made entirely in the US, and is based on Chinese Martial Arts. The character voices are engaging and believable. The plot is not too outlandish and it is a cartoon that is actually telling a story, a new chapter with each episode.

The best thing that I like about the show is that the main character, Aang, the Avatar, is not a hero who is without flaws and is ultra powerful. Aang is a 12 year old who loves to play games, and visit exotic locals to see and capture strange animals. He is a goofy kid who is growing into the world's most important role: that of Avatar. He is not angst ridden nor is he fool hearted. He is a normal boy that all ages can relate to, not only boys but girls as well. No matter what the markerters say, the "Target audience" for this show extends to much more than boys, but to girls, teens, and even adults.

Another great thing about this series is that if you are familiar with Kung Fu, and other Chinese martial arts, you will realize that this cartoon is ACCURATE. Water benders use traditional tai chi moves. Fire benders use northern shaolin kung fu to manipulate fire. Earth benders use a more southern tradition of kung fu and Air benders use bagwa, a flexible form of martial arts. Those that are interested in Kung fu and other Chinese martial arts will enjoy a cartoon that IS ACTUALLY BASED ON TRADIONAL FORMS AND MYTHOLOGY AND HISTORY. A story rooted in reality is all the more enjoyable.

I love this show and the episodes are very re-watchable and are worth owning and watching again and again.

I was doubtful about this show in the beginning- but after the first two episodes I was hooked. This is hands down the best show currently running on Nickelodeon. The animation is good, but reaches its highest point during the fight scenes- the pacing is spot on and the movements often fluid.

Another highlight of the show is the characters- all of them are well-rounded and developed. Even the antagonist has a backstory and motives.

And don't let the Asian inspiration repel you- this show isn't just "American animation trying to be anime."

I have too much to say about "Avatar" to fit it into a reasonably sized review, so let's just leave it at this: Buy it. Now.

I got into this show when I was flipping channels and watched the pilot episode. Since then, I look forward to watching it every time it comes on. For what the Nick studios has to offer, this is probably one of the most original shows ever. The characters are wonderful and interesting to follow. The plot line does remind you of the old kung-fu movies but it has this ancient parallel universe to it where the whole world is comprised of Chinese-based characters and legends. I recommend this for the entire family. It gets you hooked from beginning to end.

If there ever was a gut blasting, action packed season finale then this, my friend is it. from The beutiful scenery of the northern water tribe, to the splendor of the northern air temple to the final showdown between Zhao and Zuko. this DvD has it all. The first season goes out with a bang here because there is tons of emotions and the promise of the next season is super. in this DVD the episodes are:
1. The Northern Air temple- Aang hears stories of airbendrs around the temple, and goes to check it out.
2. The Waterbending Master- The crew finally gets to the northern tribe and Aang/katara lear waterbebding(Zuko almost dies in pirate attack)

3. siege of the North part 1- Zhao attacks the north tribe, Aang tries to contact the spirits to help him and Zuko finally captures Aang.
4. siege of the north part 2- Zhoa has a crazy evil plan to kill... AND Aang escapes from Zuko and uses his new powers to...
This DVD sets the 2cnd season up perfectly, but you should probably watch all previous DVD before watching. ALRIGHT DUDES!!see you next season!

The Avatar saga is the greatest modern cinematic mythic creation since the Star Wars films. Drawing on eastern and other world mythic traditions, the saga is broken into "books", each containing 20 or so episodes. This DVD is the last volume of 4 episodes from the first book - "water".

Each Avatar episode deals with the struggles of it's main characters as they undertake challenging quests that test their strengths and weaknesses. The quests are not purely episodic though. There are multiple strata of quests attached to multiple character based plot lines in each episode. Some quests are episodic in length, others are book length (20 episodes), and then there is the grand quest that spans the entire series. Like a fable, each episode has a moral of some sort, and it is a moral fortitude delivered with the exactitude of the samurai warrior. It is rare to find any kids show that imparts the old wisdom these days, and whoever writes the scripts for this show seems to have access to an endless spring of it. Despite it's martial arts elements, the Avatar involves no violent bodily contact - although in all fairness it is a little more vigorous than Tai-Chi. This serious approach to problem solving is tempered with many lighter moments however, and the Avatar balances all it's elements in a most satisfactory way.

Great Seller- item as promised-good communication

The Avatar cartoon is very good, I recomended it's funny, educational there is not much violence I'm older but I always been a cartoon fan. So If you have kids between the ages of 5 and 15 they will probably like it alot.

Seriously, this show is unbelievable. This volume contains what is essentially a "meh" filler episode (made more watchable by a cameo appearance by Rene Auberjournois)followed by a three-episode arc that closes out the first season spectacularly. I show this program to anime fans all the time, and I have yet to find any person of any age who watched it and didn't love it. If you've never seen the show, though, you might want to go with the first season box set. It's worth it.

Truth be told our kids got us hooked. At first you think it's just another innane, run of the mill, amime-type cartoon but in reality it's much, much more. 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' really ranks up there with 'The Lord of the Rings' in as far as offering a compelling continuous saga-like story line filled exquisite glimpses of the journey everyone takes with fate, destiny and the wins and losses that come with the realizations of self and what we are truly meant to do in life. Yes, I know, but truly it is that profound and yet still fits nicely as a kid's animated TV show. Although it's ranked right now on Nickelodeon as the most popular show with boys/teenagers 9-14, it certainly has a strong adult following as well. Not sure if the creators intended it that way but it's definitely where they landed. If you like 'The Lord of the Rings' and the 'Matrix Triology' you will meet its caliber in animated form in the 'Avatar' series. A definite must-see for the spiritually-minded but with enough subtle humor and 'elemental' balance to appeal to the realist as well. Kids see their own likeness in the main characters of Aang, Katara and Sokka as they face real-life moral dilemmas and sometimes seemingly hopeless situations. Despite their youth they meet these challenges with tremendous faith, hope and trust developed slowly not only in one another but in the freverent hope that if they keep trying day-in and day-out they will be able to help the Avatar 'save the world' and thus themselves and all they love--a belief that perhaps is timely and translates understandably well in our own precarious world/national situation. Five stars all the way!

I couldn't find this dvd anywhere. It was for my 9 yr. old who got the entire series, except this one, for x-mas. It was in great condition, shipped fast, and my son was thrilled. Thank You! Definately an A+ seller.
