There are several issues I have with this product. For one, the Dire Horse is very difficult to assemble (the legs require massive pressure to snap them into place and one back leg refuses to snap). As to the packaging, it's a joke. It's almost impossible to open, especially for the horse. The box is sealed tight on all sides. The horse is not visible until you open the package. Once you get the cardboard box open, the plastic is "stuck" to a flap and requires a firm yank to get it out. Definitely not for a wimp or someone with arthritic hands. The legs are so hard to snap into place it almost requires a wrench. As to the figures themselves, some of the parts, like the tail, stick through the plastic and are secured by almost invisible cellophane rather than a twist wire (as with Star Trek figures). The figures are wedged into the plastic so tightly it becomes a challenge to get them out without breaking something. Once everything is out of the packaging and assembled, the figures are truly beautiful and very articulate for such small figures (4+"). I would have preferred seeing them on a slightly larger scale (6" would have been nice).

The direhorse is a very fun figure. All six sets of legs are mobile at the shoulder and the knee save for the hindlegs which have no knee joint. The colouring is a nice two-toned blue and I was pleased to note the four forelegs all bore the pale stripes seen in the movie. The neck and head also move and the figure comes with a removable saddle the smaller line of figures fit into. I did have some difficultly snapping in the final hindleg which took me several tries over fifteen minutes. Otherwise a really nice realistic representation of the creature seen in the movie. The i-tag meant little to me as I do not own a webcam.

I purchased every toy and action figure available from the avatar collection. I even have the larger Jake (purchased by mistake, didn't know they came in two different sizes). The plastic is very durable. It takes a strong hand to snap all the pieces together, but then it articulates in many directions. I especially like Jake's banshee and the larger "last shadow" bird. I was amazed at the good quality of the material and the colors of the creatures and military figures. Wish they had these when I was a kid. Now I'm a big kid at heart who is still playing with toys.

Great buy! For seven dollars it was foolish not to obtain. A must have for avatar collectors, detailed as usual, and overall a great product!

This is a beautifully designed model of the Na'vi Dire Horse from Avatar. The details are wonderful and even the paler blue streaks on the creature's legs are there as seen in the movie. Great gift for any collector or person who loved Avatar and the fanciful world of Pandora!

Another reviewer had issues with the packaging, but I found it no different than any of the others. Three flaps to open at one end, and it clamshells open easily and the whole plastic part comes right out. I though it was easy, and I like the clamshell way they open for easy access to the contents. All the Avatar toys so far have opened the same way, and I had no problems. He was right about one leg though, that just never felt the "snap" into place, on mine it was the rear right leg. But although it didn't feel like the other legs with the positive feedback for locking in place, I was unable to get it out again, so mine clearly did engage the locks, just was tougher to do than the rest. The rear two legs are not jointed although they do still pivot at the body. Saddle comes off if you want, and just has a little "belt" with a male piece that snaps into a hole on the strap that comes down the other side, easy to get on and off. And the figure sat well in it for my 6 year old. Colors are pretty good, and it feels nice and solid, even the smaller front legs, so I'm not afraid that my son is going to snap them with hard play. |
