3.0 out of 5 stars not a toy!
I got this toy for my 6 year old. It's really nice and big and made of sturdy material, but the right wing keeps falling off when he plays with it. He does not like that it's not poseable. He mostly keeps it on it's stand for looks. Like the item says it's a collectible figure not a play thing.

This Leonopteryx is a beautiful figurine, and I use that term lightly because it has a 20 inch wingspan. It's huge! But then again, it was huge in the movie, and the scale of it matches the Na'vi figures correctly. The coloring is beautiful, looking down on it from above, but the underside is mostly one color. The anatomy is very well detailed as well, but with the lack of other colors on most of the body it leaves a little to be desired. It is a very sturdy model, and the wings can be (with some force required) switched between two positions, however they're somewhat subtle in difference. The tips of the wings are clear, stiff and pointy! You'll put an eye out with this thing if you're not careful. It's a bit difficult to get the Na'vi figurines to 'sit' on the Leonopteryx convincingly, and I don't think if you were 'playing' with it (flying it around) the Na'vi character would stay in place. But I think it's beautiful to look at and makes a stunning addition to the Avatar collection.

This is a pretty cool creature. the coloring could have been better, I agree, at least brighter. This one was less difficult to assemble, and stays together with no problem. Nice display model, and would hold up to some play, but works better for a display. Not real posable, but it's appearance is great for what it is. I'd primarily recommend it as a display souvenir rather than something to try to use as a toy. Worth buying in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the series, December 27, 2009

The plastic this toy is made from, is flexible, so less change of breakage. It was easy to put together, for an adult. Some of the parts need some strength, so I don't recommend a child putting it together.

Overall, the detail is nice. The underside is almost devoid of markings though. But the rest of the creature has plenty of detail. The clear stand is a nice way to display it.

Overall, this is not really a toy to "play" with. Its more a model to be admired, but its durable enough to withstand some light play. Though I don't recommend this for young children. I got it for my daughter who is 11 and she isn't one to beat it to death, so its working out just fine.

I just wish the Ne'vi's braids actually connected with the leo like in the movie. But the Ne'vi's hands can hold onto the natural "reins"

This figure is massive and gigantic and very articulated. the colors on this figure are beautiful and amazing to look at. this figure is very durable but very difficult to put together even for an adult. dont know how this toy could possibly be educational. If you loved AVATAR this is the first toy i would recommend you purchase, i have no complaints about this product, amazing for all ages.

With a 20" wingspan and a 14.5" body, this toy is enormous. And Amazon has it on sale for less than $20? Buy this. Buy this now.

This is a detailed (mostly), very accurate representative of the enormous flying beast from the movie. But is it worth your money if you like creatures, or Avatar, or cool dragon-looking things? Yes.

PROS:
-Highly detailed on the top, torso, neck and head.
-Huge. Incredible value for money.
-Durable.
-The tips of the giant wings are a clear plastic, and it is both a really nice touch, and makes it stand out among other toys or figures.
-It's a lot easier to move the wings up and down than on its smaller counterpart, the Banshee.

CONS:
-The only articulation is in minor adjustments of the wings up and down, or tilting the neck and head up and down, or rotating the head from side to side.
-Have dry, clean hands to snap the head onto the neck, and the neck onto the body. It can take a lot of strength and patience to do both.
-The underside of a lot of the body is not detailed, but painted the base color of the body.
-The stand won't let you rotate the figure in any way.

I am very happy with this figure, regardless of its flaws. It stands proud among my other displays.

If you are a fan of the movie 'Avatar', you will know the impact the first viewing of Leonopteryx delivers. Other denizens of Pandora are almost as impressive with the Thanator and Direhorse being top of the list, but for me none quite delivered the punch of Leonopteryx. i thought that the Banshee was a fabulous beast but the larger Leon' just blew me away and i knew i had to have one.

i had some trouble obtaining the Leon' as unfortunately it isn't available in England for some reason and i had to buy it through the American Amazon store - even then my troubles were not over, as the seller doesn't despatch overseas and i had to send it to a friend living in Alaska USA, so she could send it on to me. The fact that the Leon was a good price and the delivery charges were also reasonable helped me decide to go this route.

i have to say i fail to see the problem in posting overseas sales - sending items to Alaska can be as expensive! But luckily many more will sell overseas without these reservations. It is almost as annoying as those sellers who will not accept UK credit cards - i have one thing to say to them, "Use Paypal and step into the international market!"

4.0 out of 5 stars More for display than for play, March 21, 2010

What comes in the box:

Torso, 2 large wings, 2 accessory wings, head
Mounting base
iTag

Assembly:

Assembly is easy but this toy is fragile, the hinge for one of the wings broke very easily. My first box had two "Right" Wings. I had finally gotten one that was "Perfect" (3rd Time was a Charm). You need to be exceedingly careful when putting this together.

Construction:

The body is hard plastic and the wings are a softer plastic. The head rotates and flexes. The wings flap with a click. The legs do nothing. Detail of this toy is excellent. Putting a Na'Vi is difficult with the less than flexible tail. The stand is very light, and the figure feels "Top Heavy" when placed on the stand. Be careful with this on the stand.

The iTag is more detailed than the other iTags - at least this has 2 functions of watching the Leonopteryx make a dive and roar, and rises, on top of the "Information" about the Leonopteryx. This is pretty limited, and we have a plastic bag of 15 of this iTags - quite a disappointment.

Pros:

Beautiful detail

Cons:

Fragile
iTag is a bust

Overall:

This is a nice addition to your collection of Avatar Memorabilia. For a toy, this is a wonderful toy, with the limitations, as stated above.

4.0 out of 5 stars Eyecatching, March 20, 2010
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Avatar Na'vi Leonopteryx Collectible Figure (Toy)
The size of the figure is impressive, and it's certainly eyecatching with this size and the colour. The black and yellow pattern is very well done, although the body's base colour is too orange and needs to tend more towards red. All four sets of wings are movable, the neck moves up and down and the head rotates. I was disappointed to discover that the jaw is not posable, nor the legs - these could easily have been mobile so they could have swept forward.
The face is detailed, though the second pair of eyes is missing and though the eye isn't the flame-coloured mixture of orange, red and yellow seen in the movie, it would have been difficult to portray with the small size of the eyes. The blue crests and tail spires are in evidence. The smaller version of action figures fit easily to ride on the neck.

Altogether not at all a bad effort though could easily have been made better.

This is a stunning creature. The colors are true and clear. You get the feel of just how terrifying it would be to have this huge animal chasing you and how terrifying it would be to encounter one when flying your own "banshee".
