Pros:
Nice graphics
Solid use of the Balance Board
Exclusive story
Fun
co-op available

Cons:
lots of bugs and glitches
game development was rushed
not enough exploration possible.
terrible use of the motion plus

The game could have been much better but if you liked the film and want to feel like a Nav`i then the game can be fun.

Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
Before I bought this game for my 12 year old son, I'd made clear to him that I would buy him one and ONLY one game for his Wii this Christmas. He therefore spent hours online, researching the game, checking out the graphics, watching the commercials, etc. He was SO excited to receive it Christmas morning... and SO disappointed after loading and playing it. We had no idea that only the Xbox 360 game (and NOT the Wii version) has all the features and stunning graphics shown on the TV commercials.

ONLY the Xbox 360 version allows you to pick your own figures; ONLY Xbox 360 allows you to choose whether you want to be on the Navii's team, or the RDA team. Even the story line's are different from one platform to the other. The Xbox 360 version has many, many different levels that simply don't exist in the Wii game.

And the graphics... oh brother, what a scam! The Xbox 360 version, shown on all the TV commercials, looks stunning. The Wii version, on the other hand, is pixelated, low res and simply disappointing.

Buyer beware!

(PS Having said that, my son still enjoys playing the game. But his play is a bit wistful, knowing that this is NOT what he had expected.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring! December 25, 2009

The graphics for the game were not anywhere near where they could of and should have been. Was very grainy, and pixilated. Also the story was relatively basic, along with the game itself. The gameplay was basic by terms of interaction. Throughout the game it was walk around and slash every one you found, or try and be sneaky and shoot an arrow at a guy far away. In the end I found that the game was not worth the price, and I have only tried on the Wii system so I do not know if they game would differ with the other systems.

4.0 out of 5 stars This game is awesome... February 7, 2010

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this game for my kids. But apparently, it has become a family affair, when all the three of us can use this game, one on strategy, one on flying and the other on shooting. The flying on Wii board could also be an intensive exercise for overweight individuals like me. My son and my daughter love the characters, its quite challenging though to pass the levels, hey but that's what gaming should be all about.... I give full marks to this game and wish all parents can participate in this intuitive, interactive action and fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm really enjoying it! February 6, 2010

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
My sister gave me this game for Christmas and I love playing it. Once you get past the first couple of levels anyone can join you as a secondary character to give you a hand. It's also interesting that you can 'buy' your own upgrades that can affect the difficulty of game play lol. If you don't make the right upgrades in time it can really make things a challenge! I love using the balance board for flying! It's a great experience! At one point my friend used my controller and her own so that I could focus on 'steering'. A great time and even more so if you play with a friend.

2.0 out of 5 stars OK game but not what I expected. January 9, 2010

Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
I recently bought Avatar wii for my brother for Christmas, and I was really exited about it. When we started to play it we liked it, good graphics, the way of fighting in it is not bad, and the 2 player mode was great! But after just the second time we played it, we finished the entire game! We were so disappointed that we could not do all the things that Ubisoft (producer of Avatar wii) advertises on the Amazon website. For instance play as the RDA and use different weapons. You simply can't do these things on the wii version of Avatar. Over all the the game was fun but not worth $50 (more like $20 or $30), And don't trust what you read in the game description.

5.0 out of 5 stars So far, so good! December 30, 2009

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I just purchased this game, by trading in two games I didn't like (Jurassic the Hunted, and Star Wars Lightsaber Duels) and so far I really like it. I've been traveling through the jungle, using my staff and eventually my bow and arrow to kill and defeat my enemy, while accomplishing the goal for each level. I really like that there are on screen prompts reminding you which button to use (even if I did know, this is still a nice feature). It kind of reminds me of Turok:Evolution, which I really enjoyed playing on my Playstation 2. It doesn't follow the story of the movie Avatar, and I don't find that to be all so bad. It has its own story and bottom line is that I'm enjoying playing it. So far, so good!

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy James Cameron's Avatar The Game December 29, 2009
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii|Edition:Standard
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
The movie was great, this game is not. The graphics are OK visually (pretty) but the game itself is not very sophisticated. You will often find yourself floating in mid-air if you step "off" a crate, stump, rock, etc. Fighting seems to be a matter of just waving the wii remote around. When playing two players the camera gets confused easily. The bow and arrow are kind of fun as weapons but too slow to be of use once you are detected by the enemy. They are only good for picking off from a distance before you are detected. BUT worse of all are the flying sequences. You are essentially on a rail. Very little, and very poor, control of the banshee that you are supposedly flying. Basically you are on a very frustrating carousel as you fly in circles around rocks alternately chasing or being chased by a copter/drop ship as you fly around and around in circles. The game uses the nunchuck to control flight, not the remote, so it does not take advantage of the enhanced motion unit if you have one. And the control is indeed lousy. Your motion is restrained to about 60 percent of the screen area as you try to evade machine gun fire, rockets and flaming balls of light (torpedos?) in the three sections of the chapter 5 flying sequence. Motion is also delayed so you cannot really zig and zag very effectively and, frankly, your horizontal motion is ony about two wingspans wide so you are never clearly out of danger, especially from the torpedos. The upshot is that you can waste tremendous time trying to get past just this one boring and completely pointless sequence. And for what? Nothing. It's just a major pain in the xss speedbump that blocks you from getting on with the game. I have invested over 1.5 hours and still have not made it past this sequence.... Read more ›

is the game useless without the balance board?
It is compatible with the balance board, but the balance board is not at all necessary for play.

Which platform is better for Avator xbox360 or Wii?
Seems like the Wii version uses the Balance Board, and the Motion Plus, and the Xbox will have better graphics and more options. I guess it would mostly depend on how he likes to play. Sit and push buttons, the Xbox, move around then the Wii.

Either way, it's probably fun.
