Product Description

Ever wish you had an extra display for your Mac or Windows computer? There's an app for that! With Air Display, you can use your Android screen as a wireless display, to extend your computer desktop.

Air Display's performance is extremely responsive, employing a unique dynamic compression algorithm. On a typical Wi-Fi network, mouse cursor refreshes are indistinguishable from a wired mouse.

Air Display works in both landscape and portrait configurations. Just rotate your screen, and it automatically reconfigures.

Air Display makes a laptop much more useful by increasing its usable screen size.

Air Display not only gives you a wireless computer screen extender, but also works as a tablet input device. You can use your finger to draw directly on the screen's surface. Try it with a calculator, painting tool, or music control surface! Simple gestures allow you to operate the right mouse button and scroll wheel.

You can connect to Air Display from both Mac and Windows.

When you rotate the screen, or disconnect and reconnect, your windows are automatically repositioned appropriately, so you don't have to drag them back to the Android screen.

Some great uses for Air Display:

• Fill your Air Display screen with your utility apps, like iChat, Mail, iCal, and Calculator.
• Graphic design: Make Photoshop and Illustrator usable on your laptop by putting your tool palettes on the Android screen.

• Music: Use your Android screen as a wireless control surface for Logic or Pro Tools.

• Programming: Use the extra display area for such auxiliary development tools as Console, Terminal, and the Debugger.

• Business: Move all of your iWork and Office palettes and inspector windows onto Air Display, and let your document fill the screen.

On first launch, Air Display presents easy instructions for downloading and installing the companion support software for your desktop computer.

Air Display requires Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) or later, on an Intel CPU. Both 32-Bit & 64-Bit systems are supported.
(NOTE: The drivers work great on Mac OS X 10.7.2 (Lion) except for Mac models with dual NVIDIA GeForce 9400M & 9600M video chipsets. Please see for more information.)

Air Display requires Windows XP (32-bit only), or Vista or 7 (32-bit or 64-bit). Windows 7 Starter edition is not supported. Aero and DirectX will be disabled while connected to Air Display, and re-enabled upon disconnection.

(Aero support is coming soon in a free update.)

In order for Air Display to work, your computer and Android device must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

5.0 out of 5 stars Speedy February 21, 2012
This app is all about speed. There were some tradeoffs that the devs had to make in Windows to increase the speed of display. Aero desktop transparency must be disabled in Windows while the secondary display is running, for example... But what you get for it is a secondary monitor display that is much (much) faster than the competition on Android. The Windows application just sits in the taskbar when run. For me, the Windows application automatically detected my tablet when the app was running on the tablet. I can be much more productive with this app, thanks!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is fantastic for netbook and notebook users February 18, 2012

I have been using this app for some time on my ipad with my windows 7 netbook and windows xp desktop.
When I updated my desktop software and saw it was available for the kindle fire I immediately downloaded and installed it!
It works great!
I can now get extra duty from my fire as an extra monitor.
If you have ever wanted an extra monitor while on the road (or even at home) this app is for you!
Read the hardware requirements carefully apparently there are some configurations which will not work.
I have never had any problems using this software.

2.0 out of 5 stars doesn't work today March 4, 2013

When it worked it was very cool, however for the price I expect it to work each and every time. The hassle of rebooting and entering IP addresses when it is being buggy stinks.

As long as you have a fast (Tegra 3) or better it works beautifully! Like if it was a wired monitor! :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect January 23, 2013

Amazing. I use my 1st gen kindle fire as a second screen to my mac and keep my IM window and toolbars in it. It is very easy to set up and is quite smart about handing control over to the main screen when turned off.
My only complaint (and it's a minor one) is that it sometimes seems to forget it's settings and turning it on for the first time in the day can involve setting up the connection as though it was the first time. As this only takes 1 minute it isn't so bad.
Wish it could be fully automatic- for that I would give it 4 stars.
Although, compared to other options out there... it is a 5 star product

3.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work on my computer February 13, 2013

My rating doesn't reflect on the quality of the product because I never got to use it. I will try further to get it to work. Customer service has been very helpful though. Amazon won't refund my money, so I'm just troubleshooting at this point.

Update: I got the application to work now, but it doesn't play video very well. It's handy to keep an eye on things, but not to actively manipulate.

1.0 out of 5 stars Plain old does not work January 12, 2014
I installed the display "client" on a Microsoft Surface Pro 2 (Windows 8.1) to use that as another monitor for my desktop machine (Windows 7).

The desktop machine sees and connects to the Surface and indicates that I do indeed have another monitor.

The application on the Surface silently fails to display anything.

No error messages on either machine -- it just fails to work.

I've tried other programs (e.g. MaxiVista, ZoneScreen) like this one. On paper, Air Display would be the best: It works on a variety of platforms (Windows, Mac, Android, iOS), and it's actively developed: It claims to work with Windows 8.1. (Neither MaxiVista nor ZoneScreen work with Win8, and AFAICT they are no longer actively developed.)

The software seems quite untested -- like freeware or worse.

Even if it did work properly, you have to connect to the display machine using its IP address. So if you're using DHCP (like most of the world) then you'd have to manually reconfigure each time a machine obtained a new IP address (which could be quite often). The connection dialog should use symbolic names (e.g. NetBIOS name or internet hostname). Having written network connectivity software myself, I know how straightforward it is to do this. It's decades-old technology, so there is no legitimate reason for modern professional software not to support it.

I really, really want this program to work. There are no fully-functional alternatives that I know of and this would be so nice if it actually worked. It's an untapped (or ineffectively tapped) market.
