5.0 out of 5 stars Aveeno baby soap
We have been using this soap for my son for over 2 years now, since he was a newborn. I was leery of the Johnson & Johnson because I know someone who's baby girl had a very serious reaction and because their Skin Deep ratings were not good. My search began looking for a baby soap that had a good rating (ie not a known cancer causer), that smelled nice, did not break the...

DM (Chicago, USA) - See all my reviews
Added note: Aveeno is a Johnson & Johnson brand. It's supposed to be their 'better' brand of shampoo, but has same dangerous chemicals as all their lines of shampoos. The review is for this product, which we owned and used until we learned of this fiasco.

After years of being pressured to remove harmful chemicals from the baby shampoos, Johnson and Johnson finally announced today that they will phase them out in next 2 years or earlier. A simple google search of 'chemicals in baby shampoo' brings up articles from USA Today, Reuters, Associated Press, Fox News, CBS News, etc.

The 2 nocive chemicals are 1.4 dioxane and formaldehyde. None are listed in the ingredients section because they are a byproduct of other chemicals shown on the label. There are countless articles on this and this has been in the news at least twice in the past 2 weeks.

These substances are banned in most European countries, but still used by J&J in their US baby shampoo. Reason? They are very cheap to make and this market is not regulated. The fact that today they agreed to phase them out is a first step in the right direction, although it will not motivate me to ever buy their products again.

For now, we have stopped using this shampoo and are extremely disappointed in the way J&J has treated US babies. We bought 2 organic shampoos from Amazon, based on ratings from Skin Deep Database and plan to stay with these for now.

What should you do? I don't pretend I know what is good for your kids, but would recommend to do your homework about what you buy for them. Protecting them from all the chemicals in our life is impossible, but everything starts one step at a time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aveeno baby soap, December 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Aveeno Baby Wash & Shampoo, 18-Fluid Ounces Bottles (Pack of 3) (Health and Beauty)
We have been using this soap for my son for over 2 years now, since he was a newborn. I was leery of the Johnson & Johnson because I know someone who's baby girl had a very serious reaction and because their Skin Deep ratings were not good. My search began looking for a baby soap that had a good rating (ie not a known cancer causer), that smelled nice, did not break the bank completely to buy it (like California Baby) and that wasn't going to irritate my baby's skin. The result was the Aveeno baby soap. It often goes on sale and there are coupons for this product occasionally too making it not so hard on your wallet. My son has a few food allergies and eczema (resulting from food reactions) so I knew I needed a soap that wouldn't irritate him. Unlike alot of parents we bathe him every night, it's just part of our bedtime routine. I haven't seen any drying of his skin and often use the lotion as well.
I highly recommend this soap!

5.0 out of 5 stars Doctor recommended, August 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I had grown up with Johnson and Johnson baby wash and so that's what I originally used when my daughter was born. However she started having skin irritations and my doctor recommended that we switch to the Aveeno wash as she said it's much milder on baby's skin. I followed her advice and it fixed the problem. I now only buy this wash for my daughter and now my son. It also doesn't hurt their eyes at all if they get an in them. I'm very happy with this wash.

5.0 out of 5 stars My babies leave their eyes open and don't Cry, January 13, 2012
I guess this baby wash does't sting the eyes since it's a no tear formula. My 2 1/2 any 1years old keep their eyes open and the younger one even tries to eat the foam. I love the way they smell after each bath with the wash. No rashes or skin irritations noted. Will continue to use until they are old enough to bath themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it, December 14, 2011
I started using J&J organic series for my new born but somehow we didn't like it. The smell was little odd so i switched to this product and we love it. I like the smell and after using it baby's skin is not getting dried out. We love this product and i am using only Aveeno products for my new born who is now 1 yr old.

5.0 out of 5 stars So much less smelly than Johnson Baby, and effective on eczema skin!, November 4, 2011
Once I had a baby, I automatically thought my baby must have Johnson Baby shampoo/soap probably due to the 20 million Johnson ads I have watched over the years. Oh boy, what a mistake. The smell was so strong. I just could not finish using my big bottle of Johnson Baby, and had to switch to Aveeno Baby for my daughter's baths. I just love the Aveeno Baby Wash. It has a very pleasant mild smell, and it does not worsen my baby's eczema. It is also effective in getting out her mild cradle cap, though the product was not able to remove her more serious outbrakes of cradle cap when she was about 3 months old. This product, especially given its price, is a definite buy in my household!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Baby soap for the price, October 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have twin boys that were born premature so i wanted something gentle for them. I searched around and there are many brands but many that are quite expensive for how much I go through. I ended up trying Aveeno and have been pleasantly surprised by it. It's extremely gentle, at a good price and lasts a long while with the sizing sold through Amazon. Highly recommend for those that want something gentle, more natural and at a good price.
