5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you A7X
This is, a DVD for the fans. Who else would buy it anyway? The guys did a great job compiling footage from their entire history to give you a glimpse into their world. It is great to see that these are down to earth, if a little wild, guys who made good. By the way, this is the best band out there today, and anything they do in the future will be great because they...

3.0 out of 5 stars Just like M. Shadows said...
..it is not a documentary. However, his reason for doing this was because he didn't want to do what every band did and had just a live performance. Unfortunately though, he didn't make this special either. I went in with an open mind and I do like the documentary until the end because it seems as though they go great into depth from their early beginnings and their first...

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you A7X, August 5, 2007
This review is from: Avenged Sevenfold: All Excess (DVD)
This is, a DVD for the fans. Who else would buy it anyway? The guys did a great job compiling footage from their entire history to give you a glimpse into their world. It is great to see that these are down to earth, if a little wild, guys who made good. By the way, this is the best band out there today, and anything they do in the future will be great because they continue to push the boundaries and make great records, not singles for pop consumption. Part of the DVD also clears up and ongoing issue about Shadows' voice. They decided before Waking the Fallen that that album would be 1/2 scream, 1/2 sing and the next album (City of Evil) would be a singing album. Zacky said in a guitar mag interview that they didn't want to contribute to that noise polution (screaming) anymore. I can confirm that Shadows does have plenty of vocal power and can still scream when he wants to. I saw them in Atlanta last year and he has live vocal power comparable to Steven Tyler.

If you want a live concert video, this isn't it. It has about 4 live songs and 4 music videos, plus an audio only version of Pantera's "Walk". There is plenty of live footage of the guys on you tube if that is all you are looking for, even newer versions of songs like "Second Heartbeat" that are mostly singing. If you want an in depth look at the band and want to see a little raunchy good fun, buy this DVD. Great job by Avenged Sevenfold by putting out something the fan base (and it is a big fan base) will love. For those of you out there just getting a glimpse of these guys, buy the CD's, buy the DVD, buy a t-shirt, and get on the mailing list. When the new album and tour comes around, it is going to be an amazing ride.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real fans WILL enjoy this, November 8, 2007
This review is from: Avenged Sevenfold: All Excess (DVD)
As a reviewer before me estutely pointed out "only real fans" will be interested in watching a 2 hour documentary about Avenged Sevenfold. I absolutely agree with this, but fail to see why this would warrant a poor review. An "All Access" DVD is made for real fans, its not made for people that heard City of Evil and thought that it was cool. It was made for people who heard Sounding the Seventh Trumpet and waited patiently for Waking the Fallen, and then waited again eagerly for City of Evil. If you follow the band and have ever wondered; hey how did these guys get their stage names? or I wonder what these guys were like back in highschool? or what is that demonic sounding high pitched voice on "The Art of Subconscious Illusion"? Then this DVD is made for you, and trust me, as someone who greatly appreciates A7X and what they have done, you will not be dissapointed.

this really is a very good dvd and well worth having. it gives you a lot of insight into the lives of avenged sevenfold and how the band got formed. there's also a lot of extra stuff on the dvd as well. all the music videos are on there as well as how they were made. it was worth it just to finally see the sieze the day video. what you won't get it endless shots of sevenfold in concert. what you will get is honest commentary about what goes into the band. i liked it. there are moments that will amaze you and moments that will make you go what were they thinking. if you're a sevenfold fan you need this dvd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely "for the fans," but no complaints here!, January 20, 2011

This is the sort of thing that, if you're not a fan of A7X to the core, there will be absolutely nothing here to interest you. But if are such a fan, this is a definite "must."

The video spans from when they started to form as friends all the way back in middle school, to how they got started as a band, and every single change along the way. There's plenty of "inside" footage as well, showing the guys when they're not recording. Sure, some of it's a little over the top and maybe a little too shameless, but it's them. It's the band acting more as friends than just a band, and it's hilarious to be able to see that side. It's not very often that a band is actually willing to show that kind of thing to its fans, I guess.

The only part that was a little unfortunate was how short the DVD actually seems to be. I've heard that there are "extras" you can find if you click around during the actual DVD, but I haven't done that yet, since it's kind of an inconvenience.

Overall, it's a great DVD that really every fan of the band should see, both for the laughs and to know their whole "story."

4.0 out of 5 stars 5 guys who make great music., November 1, 2007
This review is from: Avenged Sevenfold: All Excess (DVD)
Yes, a bit more concert footage would have been nice but I did really enjoy getting a chance to learn more about what makes this great band tick. If you're already an A7X fan then it's definitely worth adding to your collection. BTW, the out take titled "Hotel Drunks" is hilarious ... is it just me or does Syn act just like Captain Jack Sparrow when he's drunk? "Pink is the new black!"
