From Booklist

Nikki Youngblood is struggling with her newfound identity as a Halfling, searching her past in order to discover her path through to the future. Even as she learns to control and use her powers, she still balances on the edge between faith and nonbelief. In this latest installment of the Halflings series, the perspective on a world where half-angel/half-human outcasts fight battles against evil widens. Although Nikki is still at the center of the story, more Halflings, as well as the higher powers watching their daily struggles, are introduced and fleshed out, and once again the ending is wide open for further sequels. Grades 9-12. --Charli Osborne

Review

Praise for the series: 'Sure to appeal to fans of both star-crossed lovers and Stephenie Meyer.' -- Booklist 'A well-written, thoroughly thought-out, and utterly addicting read.' -- USA Today

This is an amazing series that I highly recommend for all fans of young adult books… no matter your age. ;)

The book is 300 pages long, but it will not take more than a day to read because the story will grab you from the first page and keep your attention throughout.

Second, she is still in love with Mace, her Halfling boyfriend while Raven- his brother still have feelings for her as well.

Non-stop action, lots of angsty love, and choices that will ultimately affect everything.

The author really did a great job of bringing everything together at the end of this story. I wondered how far ahead she had planned out her storyline and this book answered my question. I appreciated the emotional and mental struggles Nikki experienced and the consequent decision she made.

I love the camaraderie the teens have with each other and their unshakeable focus on completing their mission. This maturity would put me and many others to shame. Knowing your purpose and sticking with it at any costs is a rarity nowadays.

Say what??!?!! A book FOUR has been scheduled!

Squeeeeeeeeeeee!

For those of you following along with the series, Raven's heart has been completely broken and there's only one thing for the author to do.... Hopefully, love is his future and some peace regarding his past. Fingers crossed for him and can't wait to see how the story continues on.

Zondervan sent me the above ARC for review purposes. It will allow me to keep the ARC. I have no other connection to and have received no other compensation from Zondervan.

I loved this book. I eagerly anticipated this book and it did not disappoint! Nikki is back and different. With all she has been through with Vessler, Mace and Raven, she doesn't feel like the same person she once was. She has chosen Mace, or at least that is what she thinks until Raven shows up and whisks her away. Both of them love her, Vessler needs her and the Throne has plans for her.
I like the changes in Nikki. She is strong and sure of herself. Mace is still protective and the leader of the halfling group. Raven is still a loose cannon and in love with Nikki. I loved all the new characters and seeing all the old ones. I still have questions and I hope the author is going to continue some with these characters!
This is a solid 5/5. Great book in this series!

Many thanks to the publisher for the review copy of this book (via NetGalley). I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

From the absolutely beautiful purple front cover: Sometimes facing your destiny means risking everything.

My Review
For those of us booklovers who are not into stories about revenge, a book titled Avenger may sound risky. Well, take heart and be encouraged if you feel that way because the conclusion to Nikki's story is what I found to be the best book of the series and there was nothing about revenge in it. The book is 300 pages long, but it will not take more than a day to read because the story will grab you from the first page and keep your attention throughout. Reference to Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast.

What I Loved about this book:

~The cover, I'm a purple lover so I don't get tired of looking at it.

~It's nonstop action and romance, I truly believed these elements were perfectly balanced in this story.

~Nikki has finally decided who she's meant to be with, since I'm not a fan of love triangles in YA books that just makes the story all the more enjoyable for me. Raven doesn't stop his antics or the intense way he looks at Nikki, but she refuses his moves. She did love him at one point, but her mind is made up.

~There is a spectacular motor bike race with the Halflings in this book during the one or two parts they're not fighting that just enhances the story tremendously.

~Nikki is a Halfling, she gets her wings and her Halfling name in this book (that alone is worth buying this book, but there's still more)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Her reaction and the reaction of the other halflings to that, it just makes the story shine.....like she graduated, now she's officially part of the halfling family and she now has a real identity to go with her destiny. Awesomeness all the way.

What I Loved

Nikki is a lot less torn in this book when compared to Guardian (and I appreciated the toning down of the love triangle). At first, while Raven and Nikki were on the run from the Seeker (which was legitimately scary, by the way) and Mace is back at Viennesse, I was the one torn. Raven was being, well, Raven (part protector, part flirt), and Nikki wasn't having it. I liked that, but at the same time was wavering in my Mace loyalties.

Any book that can make me wonder just who the heroine is going to end up with is a keeper.

The fast pace and unrelenting action that I grew so fond of with both Halflings and Guardian returns full-force in the third book in the series. So many answers are revealed in this one! Vessler is as evil as ever, but there's a twist to even his character in the end. Raven provides a key to his and Nikki's relationship (page 146 is pivotal). Mace is as dedicated and sweet as ever, but there's even a change in him that rockets up the respect level.

What I Didn't Like As Much

I'm still unraveling the theological logic given on page 213, but, as with the other books, I appreciate that Heather Burch never distorts Scripture or says something that makes me squirm. This is a paranormal with half-angel, half-human beings, after all, though, so the super-unexpected ending and even the darkness is well-played.

This book gets quite dark without being over-the-top depressing (there's plenty of comic relief, supplied mostly by the candy-loving Vine and surprisingly-heroic-but-still-adorably-nerdy Zero). I like the ending because it totally had me thinking we were going to lose a major character -- or all of them.

Any book that can make me wonder if everyone's going to die -- and make that somehow seem strangely okay -- is a keeper.
