5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding and Original Story November 1, 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
It is extremely difficult to come up with a plot which is truly original, which is why so many books are instantly forgettable. However, here the author has written a story which is quite unique and which makes for a fascinating read. For the first couple of pages I was thinking that this all seemed a bit weird. By about page 20 I was hooked and I remained that way throughout.

The tale concerns the four archangels, Uriel, Michael, Azrael and Gabriel. They each have soul mates, or archesses, who are somewhere on earth and the archangels, about two thousand years ago, chose to live on earth so that they could seek them out. The first archess, Eleanore, is discovered and then it is up to Uriel to win her and protect her from others who are also interested in her. These include Samael, the fallen one, otherwise known as the devil - but hey, you definitely get the impression that whilst he has his sinister moments, and despite the bad press he gets he is really not all bad!

The climax of the book is quite frenetic and definitely of page turning intensity. There is a strong hint towards the end that a second archess has been located which appears to be a lead in to the next book in the series. I think a lot of the charm of this book is in the way the author has dealt with the archangels. Being such ancient beings created by God, one might expect them to be constantly making rather profound statements in rather archaic language. However, far from that they come across as very contemporary and, in many ways despite their powers, very human. They are certainly not averse to the odd profanity when speaking which is certainly not very angelic! They are also very different and interesting characters and have quite distinct personalities and abilities.

So, best to suspend disbelief and start reading because once you have got into this book there is a very high chance that you will really enjoy it. This is a heady mix of drama, romance, suspense and action which the author handles very well. Apparently Messengers Angel is lined up for publication in the middle of next year to be followed by Deaths Angel. As Gabriel was the messenger angel and Azreal, the angel of death I would presume that these books will deal with finding their archesses. If the author can keep up the high standard of Avengers Angel then this series will be a resounding success.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely made my 2011 top 10 November 6, 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
As a reward for their devotion, and flawless service, four favored Archangels, were given a special blessing. They were shown the four brightest stars in the vast cosmos and told that they were the gifts. Four Archesses meant to be mates to the mighty, Uriel, the angel of Vengeance, Michael the Warrior, Gabriel the Messenger, and Azrael the angel of Death. A revolt arose in Heaven because of the jealousy over the favored status of the four, causing the Archesses to fall from the sky and land in the emerging human population, and the four Archangels decided to follow and search for their promised mates. After fruitless millenia of searching, the four have assimilated into modern culture and all but given up hope of finding their Archesses. Until now........

I was not familiar with Heather Killough-Walden's previous works, and to be perfectly honest, had not heard a lot of buzz concerning this book, but I was taken in by the blurb and thought "Why not?". Best gamble I've taken in years!! I loved, loved, LOVED it. This is NOT another cookie cutter, "jump on the PNR bandwagon" book. This was a MASTERPIECE! As my friends at Goodreads can tell you, my updates were fast and furious while I read this book. This book had more twists and turns than a rollercoaster. The writing was intelligent but not so detailed and complicated that it lagged. The characters were fun, sexy and people I would have over for drinks and strip poker. Eleanor Granger, Uriel's heroine was absolutely great, and you know I am no pushover in the heroine department. I am also a huge fan of a redeemable villain with shades of grey. Sooo mysterious!! I wanted to surgically implant this book so I would never be without it and perhaps absorb some part of these awesome beings.

5.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't put this book down! November 2, 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is remarkably addicting! I stayed up until 3am reading because I could not put it down. I immediately fell in love with the beautifully created characters. Uriel, the Angel of Vengeance is not only a very powerful immortal walking among Earth, but he is also a very gorgeous, very famous actor. For two thousand years, Uriel and his three Archangel Brothers have been desperately searching for their promised Archessess, their soul mates created by God as a gift for their loyalty. However, the four brothers are not the only beings from Heaven that know about the women. Others are hunting for the woman of beauty as well. A fallen angel by the name of Samael has his sights on finding one of the coveted Archesses and making her his own. When Uriel and Samael find Ellie (one of the precious Angels) simultaneously, they must both fight for her affection and Samael is not afraid to play dirty by using his powers to sway her to choose him instead of her intended mate, Uriel. Uriel must do everything in his power to protect her against those who wish her harm and save her from the fallen angel's desperate grasp.

This novel is SO good! It has twists and turns, romance and revenge, and a battle between good and evil. There are angels, vampires, magic, and even fire breathing stallions. This book has it ALL!!! I loved every page and I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series.
