I do strongly suggest picking up a copy of AVENGERS MASTERWORKS #7 before you read this book!

Now with that said, AVENGERS: EARTH MIGHTIEST HEROES II serves as a pretty good and very entertaining "behind the scenes/re-telling" of the original and classic: THE AVENGERS comic book issues #55-60. While the writer, JOE CASEY, does a spectacular fan-boy set-up of this era's AVENGERS, Mr. Casey horribly fails to keep intact a major plot point from the classic comic book saga.

In the original series, when Hank Pym (GOLIATH) had his mental health issues, stemming from his leadership role of the current AVENGERS team, and Hank Pym became the costumed vigilante, YELLOW-JACKET! Dude, no one knew that it was Hank Pym behind the YELLOW-JACKET mask and costume; not even the comic book audience knew! Only Janet Van Dyne, THE WASP, kind of figured it out... but only towards the end of the story. Again, in the original comic book series, Hank Pym's breakdown from being THE AVENGERS' current leader was so complete; that Pym's mannerisms and his speech patterns were so tragically consumed by his spiraling YELLOW-JACKET persona, that all of THE AVENGERS' current roster were totally fooled by it and even viciously fought against YELLOW-JACKET (Pym) in a drop-dead serious fight to rescue THE WASP from YELLOW-JACKET'S clutches. Being a young boy of 12 at the time, I was so shocked and excited to see that "good ol' Hank" wasn't murdered by this new YELLOW-JACKET character, like this YELLOW-JACKET had claimed that he had done, but that it was actually Pym all along, suffering from enormous amounts of stress and high anxiety from the leadership role that CAPTAIN AMERICA had handed over to Pym.

Well written story of the early days of Avengers. Kind of like a Year Three or Year Four. Well in-depth look at these characters.
