Great Secret Invasion Tie-in that Delivers,
By
This review is from: Avengers: The Initiative, Vol. 3: Secret Invasion (Paperback)
For their Secret Invasion of the planet Earth, one of the Skrulls' plans was to place a Skrull in every state. How to do this? Enter the Initiative. With a Skrull on every team and a Skrull in charge of the whole shebang, it seems as if Earth might truely be screwed. Then 3-D man and the Skrull Kill Krew come into the fray and help turn the situation around with the help of the Shadow Initiative, a very scared Antman, and a self-hating Skrull who wants nothing but to be a part of Earth.
Obviously I'm not going to give away plot or anything. If you have read the other SE tie-ins and have been reading the Initiative before this, then you'll check it out anyways. The writing and art are both supurb and this isn't just back-up story on how the Skrulls managed to infiltrate Earth, much like Mighty and New Avengers did; this has action and some good ole Nick Fury gusto. Fans of the Initiative will not be dissappointed in this collection.

egregious mayhem,

This review is from: Avengers: The Initiative, Vol. 3: Secret Invasion (Paperback)
Picked this up in the local library. The plot is about a skrull secret invasion of earth and this is achieved by planting sleeper agents in all the superhero teams. The skrulls are these demonic looking aliens who are shape-shifters and can mimic the appearances and powers of their intended replacements. What happens to the replaced superheroes is not explained here. I gathered that this is part of an on-going overall Skrull invasion theme throughout the Marvel universe.
Anyway, the key Skrull infiltrator has taken over Henry Pym's role, the current leader of the Avengers. There are numerous and other sub-groups of superheros, many of them new and unfamiliar to this reviewer. One of them is headed by the 3-D man, who possesses the power to see through the Skrull impersonation. He is aided by other superheroes who have to literally ingest dead Skrulls to retain their powers. The Skrull invasion is headed by the arrival of the Skrull queen, who impersonates Spider-Woman. Thus, the dimnutive Ant-man hangs around her and harbours impure thoughts on her oversized mammaries. The above I managed to work out. The rest is total chaos. There are soo many unfamiliar superheroes and skrulls in the non-stop fight sequences that (I kid you not) the artist had to resort to labeliing the figures in the drawings. I certainly would like to see another reviewer try and take this book to a higher plane(t). |
