I bought the individual Avengers issues as they came out when I was kid, and was riveted by it each and every month. I loved this story so much that I bought the first trade paper back collection and then later bought the second trade. The first trade included extra pages drawn specifically for it, the second omitted those pages but instead had a new digitally colored front and back cover. This collection includes all of that and also includes the Thor Annual that started the whole Korvac story to begin with. Pretty cool collection if you ask me.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest Avengers stories ever told!, December 19, 2010
This review is from: Avengers: The Korvac Saga (Marvel Premiere Classic) (Hardcover)
If you are an Avengers fan, and do not own this story, then I suggest you buy this hardcover collection. It includes the entire story, plus Korvac's first appearance in Thor annual #6. It's a great story written by Jim Shooter, with fantastic art by the legendary George Perez. The story revolves around Michael Korvac, a mysterious man from the future who basically wants to destroy the universe in order to save it (?). Yeah, he's a little misguided, but also immensely powerful. Even with help from the Guardians of the Galaxy, can the Avengers even hope to stop this dangerous foe? If that isn't enough to sell you on this story, I don't know what is!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Cast of Hundreds!, November 17, 2011

I had no idea what to expect from this book but had it on good authority (@MichaelZapcic of I Sell Comics fame) that it was a classic and should be read. It starts with a Thor annual which serves as a introduction to the Guardians of the Galaxy who I'd not seen in print before and was much needed. Then in flies into the main story thread. Each issue stands on it's own but as a side-effect of that, there's a lot of side stories running through the saga. However, it's a fascinating read and I must say it's a great end to great story.

Often times we hear about something so many times and so enthusiastically that when we finally catch up, we are disappointed. I have been hearing about the Michael/Korvac saga and been wanting to read it since I started collecting comics in the mid-80's. I had heard it was THE Avengers story. I had incredibly high expectations. I was not disappointed! The classic team is here. There are intergalactic guest stars. The Marvel characterizations are in play as the heroes argue amongst themselves. And best of all, the villain is cunning, incredibly powerful, and not necessarily even evil! Now that I've read it, I agree that it is THE Avengers story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Korvac's Reign, April 5, 2011

Let me sum this up after the Thor annual which is more than filler,it kicks in and builds up to one of the best superhero/villian throwdowns ever. The one thing for you to ponder is Korvac really a villian? In the Thor filler story easily yes,but after ascending to demi-godhood in my opinion its sort of in the gray. The writting(exclude the Thor filler story) is great The George Perez artwork is some of his best second only to his Wonder Woman run.Worth it

5.0 out of 5 stars they're not lying....., February 23, 2011

As good as it gets. The Avengers arguably peak right here, the Byrne Wundagore saga just afterwards (with the well-remembered Ms. Marvel & Falcon lineup) is the icing on the cake, after that it was the end of an era ~ don't think the book ever reached these heights again. All the great Avengers (sans Mantis) are here. I, too, bought these issues as a kid, and they were seminal, so I can't not be biased. If you dig this, check out the Serpent Crown/Wild West Kang story from a couple years earlier that kind of ushered in this period. These are the glory years, my friend.

Down with Gyrich!
