Fun and groovy listening!, September 13, 2009
This review is from: Avengers & Other 60's TV Themes (Audio CD)
This is a terrific compilation of 60s British TV show themes. When I first purchased this back in 2001, I wasn't familiar with many of the songs, but really enjoyed listening to them nontheless. The only tunes that I recognized were 'Dr. Who', 'The Avengers', 'The Saint', 'Perry Mason' and 'The Fugitive', but I've come to love all of them over time. The only thing that disappointed me was the fact that 'The Prisoner' was missing from this compilation. If you enjoy music from this era you will not be disappointed. It's total groovy fun to kick back and listen to.

Review of the Avengers & Other Top Sixties TV Themes CD, January 27, 2009
I rated this three stars. I gave it this rating not because there is anything wrong with it, but so that purchasers would take a good look at it before ordering it. They need to be sure they are getting what they think they are getting.
It is a well done, quality CD. However, the purchaser should know that this CD is a selection of British sixties TV themes. While many of the themes would be familiar to an American (The Avengers, Ben Casey, Perry Mason, etc.), many more would be unknown ( Dad's Army, Sir Francis Drake, Our House etc.). Many of the themes are not the original version (or at least not the original American version). I am not sure if some of the American shows had new recording made of their themes when they aired on British TV or if these are orchestra versions of the themes.
That said I still consider it a nice addition to my music library. The 40 themes on this two disk set provides a nice cross section of TV themes of the decade. The set covers science fiction (Dr. Who, Fireball XL-5), spies (Avengers, Top Secret), law enforcement (Department S, Rivera Police), and dramas (Peyton Place, The Doctors). Only westerns are under represented. The CD includes some themes not found in most other TV theme CDs (Stingray, The Deputy). Included with the CD is an insert with a short paragraph on each of the themes.
