Bought this thinking it contained the events central to the plot of Avengers vs Xmen. The opposite is true. A collection of superfluous sequences that could be completely ignored. Half the book is X-babied and other joke sequences. Skip this unless you're a hardcore completist.

For fans who debate the type of question like "who would win in a battle between Cap & Wolvie"? That's all this collection is about: heroes beating each other up. It's this and nothing more. It doesn't contain the AVX storyline, just brief battles between Avengers and X-people. So while there's no story to speak of really in this trade there will always be room for flash-in-the-pan comics of everyone's favorite heroes manning up against each other. And that's okay. Here are most of the fights you'll get:

Iron Man Vs. Magneto (you'd think that was a bad match-up but...)
The Thing Vs. Namor
Captain America Vs. Gambit (sorry all you Gambit fans...)
Spider-man Vs. Colossus
The Thing Vs. Colossus
Black Widow Vs. Magik (helps to know how to read Russian with this one...)
Daredevil Vs. Psylocke
Thor Vs. Emma Frost (not as lopsided as you'd think...)
Hawkeye Vs. Angel
Black Panther Vs. Storm
Hope Vs. Scarlet Witch

And a few other brief blips that are played out just for fun, not as if they had happened as part of the bigger AVX storyline.

But this is far too short to be worth the amount of money I paid for it.

I honestly bought this trade by accident when trying to purchase the AvX collected edition because it popped up as the paperback version even though it is a very different book. This trade is a collection of expanded fight scenes between X-Men and Avengers that take place in the first few issues in the actual event. The fights in this collection are all referenced to in the actual storyline but not all are finished or fully shown, so this trade does have a benifit in that it shows some of those 'deleted scene' type moments. But, these fights just jump with no story or explanation so its useless as far as story goes unless you try to pair it with the actual AvX collected edition. For me personally, I returned this trade after glancing through it and seeing its just a 'best of action art' slideshow. It doesn't really add to the story and is hard to follow. If you try to read it in the middle of the AvX collected edition as a supplement for some of the overshadowed action, it will slow the overall pace of the pulse pounding storyline, but if you try to read it after you've finished the whole AvX story arc, then you will likely have lost a bit of interest in the preliminary fights that don't end up as very important for the Marvel Universe to follow. So for me, it was useless. The artwork is great and if you don't really care about the AvX story and want a Capcom style head-to-head fight comic with no story elements, than you'll love this.

I only purchased this for two reasons I assumed that it was the entire story of Avengers vs. Xmen and for comic reference for future art I wanted to created. From a perspective when it comes to the story it doesn't really give you much as to details pertaining to the "main" feud itself. On a positive note this book does have some fight scenes by some very notable artist( Steve McNiven, Leinil Yu, Ed McGuinness, etc.) just to name a few that look amazing because THEY are amazing. Other than that if you're only interested in the story itself you can pass this book, save a few extra dollars and purchase the $35.00 Avengers vs Xmen. But, if you're an artist who's looking for comic book reference for different fight scenes by some amazing artist it's a pretty good pic up. I'd like to give it a 3.5. So I thought it was pretty cool.

came in on time and new. included AvX:VS #1-6 issues and AvX:Babies. I docked it 2 stars for several reasons. For #1, this doesn't add to the AvX story at all. If you decide to skip this, you're not missing out on anything other than some extra artwork to look at. They're just short fight scenes - which I kind of expected - and a few lame comments here and there. The random "AvX facts" that they put throughout the comics are pointless and the very first fight scene completely frustrated me since how the fight turns up sounds like it came out of someone's ass. Other than that, good artwork and it provides some extra entertainment to be enjoyed by fans

I just purchased the paperback version of this novel based on the 1st several reviews of this book and was extremely dissapointed when I received the book to discovered that it only had the AVX #1-6 and not the Avengers vs X-men #1-12 that was mentioned.

The hardback edition and the paperback edition should have had seperate reviews because they were entirely differently books.

Hope this helps for future buyers.

They hype of this story was one that really intrigued me to take the plunge and wait for this title. Yet when it came in, I began thinking immediately about what story to get next. The idea/concept was interesting, however the story and art didn't really bring me in to continue reading or connect with the concept. I would highly recommend looking at some of the other stories out there and pass this one by.
