This book was a very humorous book with paranormal twists. I could not put this book down until I finished reading it.

3.0 out of 5 stars I liked the first one the best
I really liked the first book in this series. The second was OK, left a lot unanswered, but I was hoping for more from book 3. I'd give this one 2-1/2 stars if I could do 1/2 stars. Still a decent read, but I'm having trouble rooting for the main character now, and that's a big problem.

I found the whole premise a little hard to buy into, and the story was thin. I did enjoy the parts about Savannah.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected, May 16, 2011

I really did not enjoy this much. It just wasn't what I expected at all. The book was labeled a mystery in the library but it should have been labeled Fantasy. Plus the fantasy aspects were not that appealing. It just felt rather wordy, without a whole lot of substance. Even the ending was odd, as the spectre who was trying to contact Bree was not she thought they were. A waste of my time pretty much and I doubt that I will read any other books by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suicide or murder?, May 21, 2011

This review is from: Avenging Angels (A Beaufort & Company Mystery) (Mass Market Paperback)
Scarcely has she closed the books on the Probert Chandler case (as told in Angel's Advocate (A Beaufort & Company Mystery)) than Bree Winston-Beaufort, attorney for the unjustly damned--and occasionally the less-than-honest living--finds herself caught up in a baffling new one. Attending the auction of the goods belonging to a banker named Russell O'Rourke, who supposedly blew his own head off with a shotgun after his business collapsed and his fortune evaporated, she is contacted by what she believes must be O'Rourke. But is it? As she delves deeper into his case, she becomes convinced that his "suicide" was in fact murder--but less certain that it was he she heard from. Meanwhile she's also learning something of the mother she never knew--Leah Winston-Beaufort was apparently in the same line as herself--and trying to "figure out what had pissed [the ghosts of Josiah and Olivia Pendergast] off at her." Then a weird and scary paranormal experience in her late uncle's just-renovated office leaves her wondering just how many directions she's in peril from--and she also begins to realize that being an advocate for the dead may be changing her into something not entirely human. Stanton continues to develop her wonderfully intriguing paranormal mystery series with flair, and even readers who don't entirely accept her picture of the afterlife should enjoy it.

this light-hearted mystery series about a young lawyer who defends the deceased is rather a novel( no pun intended) approach to the cozy series for me. I like that the office is set next to a grave yard and that not only are the employees angels, but the dogs used in the series are as well.
The characters, true to most cozies, are not too deep but detailed enough to ensure the reader wants to read the next installment.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Wrong Client, February 8, 2010
This review is from: Avenging Angels (A Beaufort & Company Mystery) (Mass Market Paperback)
I just love this series, it gets better and better and more mysterious, is Bree's birth mother actually dead and if not then where is she, what are the pendagrast really after and what's happening to bree hersef, is she becoming an angel or part angel? That alone with the rest of the questions this book raised without answering the ones I already had just keeps me wanting more and more so keep them coming

4.0 out of 5 stars super paranormal legal thriller, February 4, 2010
This review is from: Avenging Angels (A Beaufort & Company Mystery) (Mass Market Paperback)
When Brianna Winston-Beaufort took over her late Uncle Franklin's Savannah law practice Beaufort & Company, she had no idea what she let herself in for as she works legal matters in the Celestial Court. Her clients are typically spirits and her assistance angels as she is the only mortal (and lawyer) who can enter 66 Angelus St.

Her current case is a suicide victim banker Russell O'Rourke who allegedly killed himself due to the recession leading to his bankruptcy and shame. Although she struggles with the lack of a law library on line, Bree knows the heavenly law about killing one's self. However, she with Sasha her angelic guard dog at her side and her assistant angels investigate only to find Russell's widow euphoric with his death. As she begins to wonder if Russell's is a victim of a homicide, someone wants Bree needing a lawyer defending her in Celestial Court before she learns the truth of how Russell died.

The latest Beaufort paranormal legal thriller is an engaging tale due to a strong cast starting with the lead attorney. The story line is fast-paced on earth and in court as Bree and company investigate the suspicious death of Russell as well as appeal his sentencing in the heavenly court. Although similar in tone to the previous two defending their lives entries (see Angel's Advocate and Defending Angels), fans will enjoy this still unique quirky angelic spin n the afterlife.

This series by Mary Stanton is fun, entertaining and is a new twist on "paranormal" and legal fiction. Savannah lawyer Brianna Beaufort and her legal team of Angels go about defending souls who where perhaps given too harsh a sentence to purgatory and beyond. Having clients who are dead already makes the job that much more of a challenge!
