5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product
Was shopping for a quality buzzer (other than a bell) that was loud, compact and easy to use, and that I could carry in my jersey, something I could quickly pull out to use on rides when I had to ride on bike paths (at limited times) that had pedestrians as well as other obstacles to warn them for safety reasons. 3.0 out of 5 stars Loud, annoying and useless in NYC
I replaced a tinkle bell with this in a futile effort to get the average New York City jaywalker who is ignoring the traffic to notice me. While this is a very loud and annoying horn it doesn't create enough noise to wake up the unconscious knuckleheads who wander into bike lanes with their backs to the direction of traffic. On a country road or a suburban street I'm sure...

I did not want to mount it on my handlebars, as I want it to be inconspicuous as I have a road bike, do not want to clutter my handlebars.

This product fits my exact needs. It is compact, very light, has a rear trigger that is very easy to press, emits a very loud buzzing sound.

I am thinking of mounting it to my seat bag using velcro fasteners, which would make it more easily accessible but still inconspicuous. It uses (comes with) a battery which is the same width as a size AAA battery, but shorter.

I am so satisfied with it that I ordered a second one - excellent product!!

Nice Buzzer. We are going to use them on ATVs. Batteries are replaceable. There is a screw on the bottom that you have to unscrew. Water and mud resistence.

Cute little buzzer in a compact size. It's loud enough and gets people's attention without scaring them. Very good product for the price. Several friends also like it and plan on purchasing it. I'd buy it again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent alternative to a "bike bell" - Loud and works well!, January 1, 2012

This buzzer sounds like a scooter or small car horn. It is very loud from at least 50 feet a pedestrian can hear this fairly well. When used indoors or up close it is extremely loud. I have also used it when crossing intersections on cars with their windows up and gotten their attention. However, I noticed only 1/3 of the people I use this on when I ride on the sidewalk behind them will move because they assume the noise is coming from a car on the street and they do not turn around to see it is me on the bike. I think it is a decent replacement if you don't like to ring a bell on your bike. It fits very well, I made it so it is upside down and hangs under my handle bars, not int he way of anything. The button you press is perfect, it is on the back(opposite side of picture shown on here). You can hold it down for long horn or tap it a few times, etc. Good deal for the price and works decently well.

On a country road or a suburban street I'm sure this horn will work great but on a busy city street with trucks, buses and the usual city din, the loud buzz this makes isn't unique enough to alert people. The bell didn't work either so perhaps I'll move up to a fog horn or an air raid siren.

Pros:

- Loud

- Waterproof

Cons:

- Bad color, make it very ugly looking

- button is very poor designed, it broke before first usage. I am still able to use it, but not the way it was intended to be used.

- Wrong ringer tone for a bike bell. Very often people don't realize that it's a bike that's beeping. The sound should have been more like a bell not like a car horn.

Overall: I'd buy it again, because I haven't found anything better yet.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't but this piece of crap!!, April 25, 2011

This buzzer came with no instructions on how to change the tiny battery that is probably carried by no one. At best this is a child's buzzer. It comes with a battery, but After pushing on the yellow tab no sound came out.

I guess some come that actually work. It is very small.

I finally took a fricken hammer to it to satisfy my curiosity that there was a battery inside. This piece of crap is worth $1.50 tops! There is no way to contact Avenir to get some answers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Avenir Buzzer, August 5, 2009

Length:: 0:10 Mins

At first I almost didn't order the buzzer because I found the color yellow wouldn't look good on most bikes and if mounted on the handlebars could be distracting. I Liked the idea of a buzzer though so I ordered it and I colored it with two permanent sharpie markers in black and red and mounted it under my seat.It now appears to look like a reflector. It is very loud-good for short bursts of sound in situations where a bell would not get the notice you require.I would also use a bell or horn for everyday alerts where other road or construction noises aren't present. My sister said it would also be good if ever there was a threatening situation where I needed a loud sound to call attention to an intruder or scare one off.I hadn't thought of that but it's definitely a concern for some. Great buzzer!
