5.0 out of 5 stars Great tool
Works great; heat treated steel, rotating plunger seat, small size for that crowded toolbox. Use with 8mm hex bit or allen wrench. Also has wrenching flats but the hex drive works better.

1.0 out of 5 stars Did not work
The item itself comes with no instructions, but through my research online I'd become quite accustomed to how to use this product before it arrived. The outer screw ring fit inside the crank fine, but when I started to turn the outer, plunger-connected piece, the unit immediately stripped itself and was completely useless thereafter, didn't even budge the crank one bit...

5.0 out of 5 stars simple tool, does the job, October 18, 2008
This review is from: Avenir Octalink Crank Puller (Sports)
so far I have taken off 5 cranks (that's 10 crank arms), no problem.
Trying to do this job without a crank puller is a disaster.
One of the cranks I took off was covered with rust (inside and out). When I was taking it apart, the solid layer of rust ripped apart. Nevertheless, the tool took it off easily.

Why pay 50$ to a bike shop to screw up your bike when when you can do it yourself for a fraction of the cost??? A serious biker will know how (or should know) how to take their bike apart and this tool is a MUST!

This little gem took the cranks off quickly and easily. It is important to remember with this type of tool to:

1) Remove the crank nuts first. Otherwise the tool will not work;

2) Screw the tool all the way into the crank before trying to remove the crank.

First time removing old school cotter-less cranks and it was cake with this tool. I was looking for the cheapest tool with the best review and this was it! You need 2 15mm wrenches one to hold the tool and the other to turn the press. Put a little muscle into it or get a longer wrench for more leverage and it should come out no problem.

Good luck!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must for Bike Repairer, January 12, 2012

This crank puller works. When I remove crank arms nothing awful happened. The crank puller simply works.

For those who are a bicycle commuter or a frequent cyclist, you probably have hex/Allen keys and wrenches/spanner/clamp. If you have those tools, get this type of crank puller which doesn't include a handle. That saves storage space, and is usually cheaper than with the handle one.

If you're new to repairing bicycle, please check if this crank puller fits your crank arms, as there are different types of systems.

5.0 out of 5 stars It get's the job done., December 28, 2011

This tool is awesome. Got it along with the Avenir bottom bracket tool. Both came shipped, don't expect any packing materials. Well not like it needs it anyway. Its's steel. The box will break before the tool does. As soon I as I got it I went to work. Take off the crank caps and thread it in (make sure you do it the right way, I forgot which way is for the drive side, but anyway you'll figure out. just don't force it and you'll know) and I started wrenching away. The actual piece that pushes against the bottom bracket tapper was too big to fit through the square! I thought it was all over and I had gotten effed. But if you're mechanically inclined, you'll take out the tool and see why it doesn't work. Turned it around to the piece that pushes and there's a screw that holds the metal onto a smaller piece. Unscrew that, and bam cranks where off. No work, no sweat, nothing. Instantly (sarcasm). It's a great tool. It does it job for an awesome price. No need to go buying an expensive park tool. It's like choosing Craftsman instead of going to snap-on. It works. I would give all my friends this as a stocking stuffer, but they don't ride bikes at all. Nor how to fix a flat. As of now I'm looking for more avenir tools and getting those before I go buy park tools.

I was concerned that inexpensive tools can be a waste of time and money. Pleased to report just the opposite. The fit, finish and function were flawless and it worked beautifully. I just wish my other tools worked this well.

Nice little tool that's an absolute must if you're going to remove your cranks. I've also ended up putting a square nut in the crank cavity so I could use it to pull a square crank.

Used to pull an old rusty crank from my 12 year old road bike. This puller is pretty beefy. I needed to tap it a few times with a mallet to get teh crank arms off.
