Avenir tubes, NEVER again!!!!!,
By
This review is from: Avenir Premium Tube Presta Valve 700c Tube (700x20-25 27x1-1/8) (Sports)
Like others on this page, I too have had the tube go flat after pulling the pump off the presta valve. At least this time, the tube had the decency to wait until I got my pump put away to go flat. And also like others here, this was my LAST Avenir tube EVER. Let's see now, $5.99 for a tube to just go flat first time pumping it up? At least the sports store took it back. I've had 5 Avenir tubes in the last 4 weeks. Problem is, these are the only tubes any of the sports shops around here carry, and there's no decent bike shops closeby. So next time I'm in Brea, it's back to Two Wheeler Dealer for some good tubes. Never had any problems with Continental tubes and tires, so it's back to that brand.

I've been using this brand/style of tube on my road bike for the past 18 months (mostly because it's the only tube readily available at Dick's). I've noticed that some (~20%) of the tubes have 'soft' spots that show up as dips when the tube is even just partially inflated. These tubes tend to last me about a week (~30 miles) before they flat. However, if the tube doesn't have any soft spots I'm able to use them until I hit something that my tires just can't protect any tube against.

Avenir Tubes have not served me well,

I've gone through 3 tubes in less than a month. The problem I have is when I pull the pump head off the Presta valve. The valve stem separates from the tube leaving a large hole in it. I think the problem is the tubes. Will not buy again... No Way!
I plan to purchase either Quality or Michelin tubes this time. I'm hoping they are better built.

four months later I haven't had a flat. Most importantly, I buy good tires (continental gatorskin all the way, don't do cheapies) and when you do that, you can use most any tube. Don't be fooled by your LBS into thinking you need to buy special tubes, its all in the tire. Anyways, these are a great price and as good as anything else

This is the first time that I did the tube change myself. It went well now I will see if there are any pin holes in it, since the bike shop tubes had pin holes.

TL;DR VERSION: DO NOT BUY THESE TUBES.
I have, as of about 15 minutes ago, used 5 of these tubes. I have had one - and only one - survive more than 24 hours at a proper inflation. I'm running a GMC Denali Pro with stock rims and Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires. The tires are rated to 115 PSI (70 PSI minimum) and I generally inflate slowly to 105 PSI. I ride roughly 75-100 miles per week minimum. I have had one of these tubes survive (thus far) about a month; 3 of the other 4 failed either during inflation or immediately after. The first failure was with the stock (terrible) tires, and due to a puncture. Also worth noting: the puncture caused a complete blowout and shredded the tire. All other failures were in the exact same spot - the seam in the sidewall of the tube. I have checked my rims, spokes, tire, and bead. The problem is the tires. Avoid them.

These tubes work great, havent had a flat in 500 miles. I personally like the long stems but because I didnt pay attention so ending up with the shorties wasnt the end of the world. And a world without a flat is a good world!

I've always used these tubes and recently haven't had the best of luck with them. The tube I had on punctured from a piece of wire that I ran over, so I put on a new tube and before I even used it the valve broke while I was pumping it up. I am not very impressed with these tubes, but for the money they cost you are getting what you pay for.
