4.0 out of 5 stars superman tubes...great for the shorter, multi-trail commute!
I have these tubes on a Specialized Crosstrail Sport. Size tire/tube is 700x45c. I will list the only con - they're big (take up space in a bag), and a little heavy. If you're like me - my bike is lighter than its 30 yr old Schwinn predecessor, but its not a carbon road bike. I have a Topeak touring rack, carry some bags - so super light weight isn't an issue for me...

3.0 out of 5 stars I would not recommend this product, but so far it's doing the job.
I ordered three tubes of the same size. Two of them were defective. The part of the rubber tube near the Valve, is apparently so thick that it doesn't inflate like the rest of the tube leaving about a 1" area that does not fill out completely when inflated. Also, the tube was substantially larger in diameter then what it should be to provide a good fit (I used the tubes...

I have a Topeak touring rack, carry some bags - so super light weight isn't an issue for me. I ride to get from point A to B, to burn calories instead of gasoline, and I carry bulky stuff while doing it. I ride in all weather, on road, gravel, caliche, and light trail. I went from fixing flats once a week to no flats and virtually bullet proof. My tubes have the Schrader valves, so I haven't had any issues with the valve seating correctly.

Update 5/18/11
Been riding on these tube for several months. Not one flat. HIGHLY recommend.

I bought this tube after getting 6 flats in 1 month. I also used a puncture proof liner. PROS: It WORKS GREAT. I Ran over 5 thorns and just pulled each one out no problems. Another time, I rode through some soft sand that was loaded with thorns, and just pulled each one out. About 10 thorns in the front tire and another 10 in the rear.
CONS: In the morning the rear tire was flat. So I guess it wasn't quite full proof, but it got me home because it slowly deflated over night.
Another con was, the tubes are THICK, VERY THICK. YOU WILL FEEL IT. The added thickness makes pedaling MUCH HARDER. Lots of rolling resistance. You will ride about 2 to 5 mph slower with these. It will feel like someone put 20 lbs weights on each wheel. To alleviate this a little make sure you inflate these tubes to just under max or 60 lbs pressure. That will help some. DON'T BOTHER BUYING THE SOLID ROBBER TIRES. They are even worse. You're better off just carrying a spare tube, pump and tools with you. After the rear tire went flat, I replaced the rear with a regular tube and the Liner, and now the ride is so much quicker. And I left the front with the thicker Avenir tube and the Liner. And now it's the perfect balance. I thought there might have been a puncture proof warranty on these tubes, but I can't find the box. Good Luck!

I ordered three tubes of the same size. Two of them were defective. The part of the rubber tube near the Valve, is apparently so thick that it doesn't inflate like the rest of the tube leaving about a 1" area that does not fill out completely when inflated. Also, the tube was substantially larger in diameter then what it should be to provide a good fit (I used the tubes on a 700X45 tire).

Regardless of the problems above, I did install one of the defective tubes, and the non defective tube on my bike. After 75 miles of riding, I've had no problems with the tubes.

Having the tubes with the Schrader Valve was helpful; as I installed some slime in the tires, which would have been impossible with the other valve configuration.

I'm giving the product a three star rating; because, even with the defect and size problem the tires are working on the bike, and I have not had any problems with them. In addition, I ride my bike in areas where flats are almost guaranteed and with the thorn resistand tires and adding the slime, I've so far have not had any flats.

I hope this review was helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Review, March 29, 2010

These are heavy duty tubes. I did not expect them to be as thick as they are and I mean they are thick. I installed these tubes on two of my bikes so far but haven't had a chance to go for a long ride yet. But I didn't have any problems with installation. I removed the original tubes and installed these and I used one of the ORIGINAL tubes as a spare in case I do have a flat. I would not use one of these as a spare as they are about the weight of three regular tubes combined.

I have a Burley trailer that uses 20x1.75 tubes and even ordered tubes for it as I don't want any flats. And even if I do these are so thick that I could probably run the tires flat and still keep going.

I was leary about ordering these at first but at this time I am very please with this product. Just take your time and make sure that the tire seats itself properly on the rim and I would recommend these to others and I will also update my review of them after I get some miles on these tubes.

Since these tubes are so thick and heavy it might take some more effort to pedal because of the rotational force that is involved. I don't think I would use these on my road bike because of that. But for the commuter bike that I plan on riding to work (7 miles one way) or the bike for pulling by trailer it won't matter that much to me. I don't want to fix a flat. If you are planning on riding a long distance (10 to 20 miles or more) stay with the lighter tubes and just carry a spare tube in case you have a flat.

I had purchased these previously, and had a couple of flats but all in all they were okay. This set, however, has had 2 out of the 4 (so far) valve stem simply fall out. I mean completely fall out. That can only mean manufacturer defects. I am guessing they have not heard of quality control. I am extremely disappointed in these tubes, and Avenir as a manufacturer. [...]

My wife and I each own a hybrid bike and I was always losing air with my original inner tubes. These tubes solved that problem and I have yet needed to add air; going on over a month. However, my wife's bike is a Schwinn and her rims have a deep well, so these tubes are completely useless with such a rim. I tried getting extensions for the valves and that worked for only 1-day. So if you need a long valve tube, this model isn't for you. Nevertheless, if anyone knows of a long valve Avenir Thorn-Resistance tube please let me know. These tubes do rock!!!

Price was right considering prime shipping saved me money over driving to a distant bike store. Don't care for the size when having to carry a spare; but little option there. Was disappointed somewhat in the fit of the last tube I installed - the thorn resistant portion of the tube didn't fit well against the outside of the tire, tending to spin to the sidewall.

1.0 out of 5 stars Complete Junk, January 3, 2012
This review is from: Avenir Thorn-Resistant Schrader Valve 700c Tube (700x35-45) (Sports)
I ordered three tubes (one as a spare) despite some reviews claiming defects, and not even one of them lasted a five-minute ride. All three were defective where the valve stem meets the rubber. Even when under-inflated and babied, the poor quality of these tubes is not worth the hassle of changing tubes nor the worry over when they'll fail next, because it's only a (short) matter of time.
You can take the risk if you have time and money to throw away, but if you just want to ride, invest in some peace of mind and not some piece of junk. Completely disappointed in Avenir's lack of quality control. Shame on them.

I can't comment on how well this tube will resist thorns, however upon first impression the rubber is very thick and heavy. Don't buy if you intend to carry this tube as a spare on your bike. It is too big to fit in most seat bags and is quite heavy compared to normal tubes.

These tubes installed easily and have worked great for me. No complaints. I haven't had any negatives in the months since the install. I ride on a mixed gravel and paved road out in the country and generally fight flats on a regular basis (darn blackberry brambles!). These tubes have not lost any air at all. That suits me fine. I have no idea if I have caught any stickers or not but even so these have been worry-free.
