Good text for intro level spanish courses. I used this to refresh my spanish since I rarely get to use it. I think this is good for those that are looking to learn spanish or looking for a quick refresher. This would be good also for someone that is traveling to a Spanish speaking country and want to know a few words prior to going. It is more focused on vocabulary for traveling.

You have to visit the publisher's website in order to learn that this is supposed to be a two-semester course book. Many books tell you what their intent is. This one doesn't. A two-year college in my area uses it as a four-semester text. Another nearby two-year college uses another text for first- and second-year Spanish (according to their bookstore). Of course the book is not the course, and you could conceivably fill a four-semester course with additional materials. You, a consumer of education, will have to decide if the price is right for what you aare getting.
But there seems to be a downside of this. A two-year college offers 12 credits for what, according to the publisher, is supposed to be a two-semester course. A leading university, in its extension program, offers a total of 4 credits -- not 6 or 8 or 12 -- for the two semesters of introductory Spanish. The price charged by the college bookstore is greater than any price suggested by the publisher for whatever combination of materials. (Amazon's prices probably undercut the publisher's posted prices.) The text provided in the bookstore's pack does contain a card that gives access to online materials. This may account for the extra cost -- I don't know. The validity of the non-transferable card expires (from first use, I would assume) in consonance with the two-semester intent of the book.
