5.0 out of 5 stars weatherproof labels for water bottles

1.0 out of 5 stars waterproof labels
I was told in a email question to the seller that these labels were waterproof on ink jet printer. They are not. The package specifies they only work on laser jet. The seller would not take a return of the labels and told me I should have done more research on the product and that the buyer should beware. Not a good Amazon merchant. I can not speak as to how the labels...

5.0 out of 5 stars weatherproof labels for water bottles, June 28, 2007
This review is from: Avery 5524 Weatherproof laser shipping labels, 3-1/3 x 4, 300/pack (Office Product)
The environmental laboratory where I am a secretary, is quite convinced of the value of this product. We needed a way to identify the multitude of bottles of water that our field sampling teams carry back to the lab every day from lakes, streams, sewage spills, and all manner of outdoor situations. The main part of the need, was finding stickers which would remain affixed to the bottles even after the surface became wet. By the time I see any of the bottles, they have spent half a day bouncing around in a giant plastic picnic cooler filled with ice in the back of a truck and the labels are fine -- legible AND attached. The field crews have no interest in any other product now. Frankly, it has been a tricky business to continue to acquire the product; our current supplier gets excited when we attempt to order more than 15 packs at a time. But I continue to cross my fingers, before each new order, and have barely managed to keep our supply ahead of the demand. ByTheWay -- about the "laser or inkjet" question for writing on the labels... We do use a laser printer for printing on these labels. The ink of any inkjet printer would probably smear even under just the moisture of one's hands while sitting at your desk. It is quite a little chart that we print on each label. For planned sampling events we preprint some items, the location names and the date and such. Additional information, time and climate conditions etc, is added to the label by hand at the sampling site, with a permanent marker pen, filling in the blanks of the chart already printed on the labels. We have kept one of the older laser printers, in order to station it at the warehouse-office of the field crew, and they are just thrilled. (So am I. I don't have to type all those meticulous numbers for them !!) --x-- Added about a year later: The crew still loves the labels. Agency needs have required us again to justify [in so many words] the choice for these sturdy but pricey labels. The crew chose to keep the kind, but in honor of thrift has reformatted/restructured the chart we print onto the labels, in order to use the smaller sized labels of the same special kind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Avery weatherproof labels have best adhesive, good for plastic long-term storage, December 7, 2007

These weather-resistant labels are the best I have found for sticking onto PLASTIC storage bins or totes (such as Rubbermaid Roughtotes), for long-term storage. Other labels quickly come loose. I have had especially bad luck with store brands. Now I only use the weatherproof line of labels from Avery when I need to label plastic items.

I also use these for labeling packages to be mailed, because who knows what kind of weather a package will encounter during travel.

I often just write on the labels, with a Sharpie permanent marker, rather than preparing printed labels. They seem to absorb the marker ink without smearing.

Using Avery labels with computer printers also works fine. Microsoft Word software and Avery labels work well together. If I recall correctly, the "Help" pages in Word were helpful.

As mentioned somewhere on or in the Avery box of labels, the Avery web site has free downloadable Word layout templates for use when setting up addresses in Word, for printing on Avery labels. For example, there is a template specifically for a sheet/page of six labels, where each label is 3 1/3 x 4 inches.

The Avery web site lists alliances with other word processing software, such as Word Perfect. I have only used it with MS Word, however.

Confusion alert: The photo for this item may show a different size of labels than what the text description indicates. I assume the text description of the label size is accurate.

I've been using these labels for over 3 years. I use them to label my bath products, so they get a real workout as far as exposure to water goes. I stick them on plastic bottles and they stay stuck through at least several weeks of being squeezed and soaked repeatedly. They hold ink well and do not bleed. My logo is primarily black and white (laser) but there is also some dark blue on the label and that does not bleed, either.
