Looks pretty but ruins discs,
By
This review is from: Avery 98107 CD-Stomper Pro CD Applicator with Software and Labels (Office Product)
I've used CD Stomper for well over two years and I can attest that it is very easy to use. The software is intuitive and the labels look amazing on the CD (especially if you use the glossy labels with photographic level images.) I am a self proclaimed neat-nick and these labels have really dressed up my audio CD backups, software archive discs and DVD discs. Until recently I have been a devoted CD Stomper user and advocate.
BEWARE! The glossy labels will warp the disc over time. I've never used the thinner, matte labels so have no experience with them or their archival quality. I went to view a DVD archive that I had labeled about 18 months ago and the discs are warped beyond usability. Thinking it must be inferior media (Datawrite brand) I started to check my archived discs and older audio CDs. The media brands of these other discs include: Maxell, Memorex, Philips, Sony, and Verbatim. They all are exhibiting the warping to varying degrees all based on age. The longer the label is affixed to the disc, the more it will warp it. When pealing a label off the backing before it is applied you will notice an extreme curve toward the printed side. Who would guess that a piece of paper could exert enough force to bend a plastic CD?

Get the Professional look for pennies on the dollar!,
This review is from: Avery 98107 CD-Stomper Pro CD Applicator with Software and Labels (Office Product)
This is the only way to go if you want professional looking CD labels. Whether you're using them just for fun with your personal CD collection or you're producing professional products for sale, this is the right product for you!
Despite some other reviews, this product does NOT warp discs! You must use common sense when using products! This kit comes with a base (the stomper) and you just place the label sticky side up on the base and place the CD onto the label. You don't have to use force to apply the label. Following these guidelines will produce perfectly centered labels every time! However, if you apply a great deal of force when applying the label, you should probably expect some damage to your disc. Once again, use common sense. This is a simple product, so just follow the directions without adding your own, and you'll be fine! I use this product to label CDs of audio sermons at my church. It works great! You can use any photo you have or will take, or you can use one of the many photos that come with the kit. The software only took me about fifteen minutes to become familiar with. Once I had that down, the only thing left was having fun with the designs. This software has limitless possibilities, and I really enjoy the feature that lets you add ANY photo as a background for a label! Whatever your task, this product will give you the WOW effect! Highly recommended to all!

Warning to users,

As a person who spent months of aggrevation dealing with this company, I'd like to offer a warning to anyone considering using this product.
In 2003, I purchased this software as part of a "CD STOMPER" package. Moments after installing it, I was told I needed an upgrade. After spending an unecessary amount of time getting the upgrade via online download, the problems continued. Without getting into detail, the long and short of it was that the product was not functioning as described: Images were being resized without my consent, and printed images were consistently poor in quality even when the source files were 600dpi. After multiple attempts to contact tech support via the website, an employee finally answered me in one of the online forums. Unfortunately, not only was the help ineffective, but his responses were few and far between. Eventually, anything I posted was ignored. In addition, users with similar issues were also ignored. I then tried contacting the company via email, and the responses were even slower. I decided to try the website once more, only to find that my IP had been banned from posting. I was furious, and decided to call the company ASAP. After getting the runaround, I was told QUOTE: "my comments were not constructive to the tech support forum," and that, technically I was "not a click n design customer." According to the person on the phone, I had purchased their software as part of a "CD STOMPER" package that was put together by Avery. When I told them that I was using an upgrade that Click N' Design had been given to me DIRECTLY BY STOMP via registered online download, the person on the phone claimed that I was "really not supposed to have that version," and that I was "given that version out of the goodness of their hearts" (no lie). They then indicated that access to the tech support area of their site was banned, and that I wasn't a customer. I told them that if I was ignored, I'd be forced to contact the local office of the Better Business Bureau, and I hung up. Shortly thereafter, I forwarded my concerns to the Avery corporation, as well as any corporate contacts for the Stomp, Inc. company who put out Click 'n' Design. Avery in particular was shocked and dismayed at the behavior of Stomp, Inc. After months of back and forth, the company finally decided to issue me a refund for the initial package purchase I made. In closing, I must say that anyone and everyone should avoid this product and company. Their product was faulty, their tech support was rude and innefective, and their customer relations department was insulting and uneducated. Don't make the same mistake I did, folks.

You'll never go back to writing again!,

For years, I've labeled my CDs/DVDs with a permanent marker. Now that I've ventured out and bought a CD/DVD labelmaker, I'm stunned at the results! It's very simple to follow the instructions given, or just trying things out 'trial and error'. Nothing's simpler than just putting in an image either you've made or a CD/DVD label you download online, then you press print and stick the label on the applicator and press! Viola - instant labels!
The only thing I've found is that all the labels included are matte/paper quality, anything more than that like glossy/photo quality is very expensive! Matte quality is standard and decent enough. I recommend having at least a good inkjet printer if you're going to print photos on the labels, they do soak up ink! I highly recommend this product, it's quite addictive once you get the hang of it!!!

I was a bit wary after reading some of the reviews here, but decided to treat them like movie reviews and tried it myself.
This product was sooooo easy to use. I installed the software on my HP laptop in no time, and designed five labels. I printed them, used the stomper and voila - even a child could do it. The only drawback is you have to be careful when you reposition the text boxes. I printed one or two labels where the words ran off onto the waste section, but otherwise it was great. A steal at the price, really!

They work...they actually work!,

After a tragic encounter with some Fellowes DVD inserts, I was a little dismayed when I had to print disc labels. Of course, the Nero Cover Designer template did not line up properly. Luckily, Avery provides templates for Microsoft Word on their website--templates that actually WORK.
Granted, I did need to scale the image up a little to simulate a sort of "bleed", but with that small adjustment, I was able to print 4 sheets of 8 flawless labels. Another great thing is the template they provide on the back of the instructions, so you can print a "test" without wasting a sheet of labels. The CD Stomper itself would seem like a somewhat... banal invention, like nothing more than the spindle from a pack of DVD-Rs. But the advantage of the CD Stomper is that it "locks" the label into place with peel-off tabs, applying the label perfectly each time. And no force is required to adhere the label--gravity does it all. The tabs easily come off leaving no residue if you do it carefully. I found that first folding it 45-60 degrees inwards helps to break the perforations. Then, start with one edge, and gently pull outwards (away from the center of the disc), not up. Now, all that praise said, I do have one concern/confusion about the product: the front of the packaging says... "Warning: These labels are not designed for DVDs, use CD Stomper DVD Labels intead" ...while everywhere else on the packaging, it says "CD/DVD Labeling System", "CD/DVD Labels", "CD/DVD Center Labels", "CD/DVD Jewel Case Spine Labels", etc. Now, there obviously isn't a "DVD Stomper" anywhere, and Avery only seems to sell "CD/DVD Labels". So I really don't have any idea what this warning is referring to. I've burned all of the discs I applied labels to, and haven't had any read/write problems. (I applied the label first, then burned.) They seem to work perfectly. Another thing is that when making the "full-sized" disc labels (without punching out the middle), the center "punch-out" thing is very visible on finished discs because of the perforation. Not a real problem, just a tad annoying. (I'm sure full-sized labels are available for purchase somewhere...) Overall, I am very pleased that I found a disc labeling product that actually works. I will definitely be buying a set of refill labels real soon!

False Advertising,

This review is from: Avery 98107 CD-Stomper Pro CD Applicator with Software and Labels (Office Product)
I ordered this "Complete Kit" naively thinking that the box would include what it said it included with the label applicator: "24 white matte labels" and "6 white matte inserts". For the price I paid, and what the product image showed on this site, I expected to get what I ordered. Instead I received a box with a sticker covering over the original contents list, giving a modified count of only 4 CD labels, and no inserts at all!
People, before you purchase this item--or any item here or elsewhere--make sure you get what you pay for. Because I certainly didn't.

This review is from: Avery 98107 CD-Stomper Pro CD Applicator with Software and Labels (Office Product)
The CD-Stomper was worth the money. It was very easy to use and the labels fits perfect every time. Like they say, a child can use this product. My CD labels look so professional. I loved it so much, I purchased the Glossy Labels by Avery and boy! I could not believe it, my CD's again look so professional. I Love It!! Buy it, Try it.

We found this stomper and software to be much better than the cheap "buy it a the same place you by your calculator store". We HAD a cheapo application before this one that we had no way of storing profiles in previous to this one. This app allows you to re-use a template of your file for re-use in the final product. Well worth the price of admission.

I bought this product after reading the reviews on this site and I love it, I have terrible hand writing and always hated the way my burned CD's looked. I have to say that this has made my life much easier. The labels always come out just like they show on the program, the program is super easy to use, I sat down and after five minuets I had made my first label designed! the only draw back I have found is that sometimes the labels don't stick exactly on center and there is a slight uncovered spot not enough to interfere with any player just enough to show a little bit of silver on the disc but it doesn't bother me at all. I love this product and recommend it highly!
