If you love aviation art, you'll think you died and went to heaven when you peruse AVIATION ART OF WORLD WAR II. This doorstopper of a book combines three previously published books: FLYING ACES, BOMBER MISSIONS and CARRIER WAR, offering the reader a 448-page treasure trove of art for under $25.00. Such a deal!!
AVIATION ART OF WORLD WAR II features the work of Robert Taylor, Keith Ferris, Stan Stokes, Tom Lea, Nixon Galloway, Gil Cohen, Craig Kodera, Robert Bailey, Mike Machat, R. G. Smith, William S. Phillips, James Dietz and other incredibly talented artists. The artworks run the gamut from blood-and-guts, in-the-cockpit combat scenes to quiet, atmospheric vignettes. Aircraft covered include every major American aircraft to see combat in World War II along with a few Axis and Allied aircraft to boot: P-38s downing Yamamoto, Dambuster Lancs, VT-8 Devastators, 'Big Beautiful Doll,' 489th BG B-24s, Taranto Swordfish, Rall's Bf 109, 'Flak Bait,' Bush's Avenger, etc. The quality of the artworks is simply incredible! Included with the artwork are accompanying descriptions of the scene depicted along with an "About the Artists" section in the back of the book.
If you're a lover of aviation art but can't afford the sometimes steep price tag of art prints, AVIATION ART IN WORLD WAR II will fill the bill. It's a marvelous, mouth-watering collection of artwork by many of the major talents that have worked or are working in the field. For Pete's sake, run out and get a copy asap! Highly recommended.
Note: I found my copy at Barnes & Nobles in the Bargain Books section; cost: $24.98.
My husband had wished for a book like this and when I found it, I was thrilled. He couldn't put it down once he opened it at his party. Many of his guests were asking to borrow it even just for a night. He is still going through it page by page...reading every word. He absolutely loves the quality of the prints and the attached stories. Special gift.

I bought this book for my dad, a B-24 navigator, two years ago for Christmas. He liked it so much he wanted to buy several for members of his bomb group but didn't want to spend the $100.00 cover price for each of them. I had to fess up and told him I only paid $25.00 at Barns and Noble in there mark down section. The next thing I knew he made me a list of people he wanted to get them for. I live in Georgia and he lives in IL but between the two of his we were able to fill his order. He liked the book so much he recommended that his bomb group reunion organizer buy them all up at the next bomb group reunion and sell them. My father likes to share his books but said he wouldn't share this one because he might not get it back. The art work is fantastic and there is a story that goes with every picture. The pictures are worth framing they are that good. Buy a new copy for yourself and an older copy to pull out some of the pictures and frame.
