More About the Author

Mal Gormley was born in New Haven, Connecticut, graduated from the University of Hartford Art School in 1972 with a Bachelor of Fine Art in painting. Following a passion for aviation, he began flight training in 1977, and ultimately earned an Airline Transport Pilot certificate, working as a flight instructor, charter pilot, FAA designated Check Airman, and for a commuter airline, flying all over New England.

A chance opportunity in 1988 led him to become a staff editor for Business & Commercial Aviation magazine, an Aviation Week publication of McGraw-Hill. He moved to Maine in 1994 and continues to write for B/CA as a Contributing Editor. Mal also is an accomplished artist working in acrylics and found objects, and displays his work regularly in Maine.
