5.0 out of 5 stars Aviation weather finally presented in pleasant format., March 28, 1999
This review is from: Aviation Weather (Hardcover)
As a student private pilot it's easy to get too much dull information in front of you that must be sifted through to find practical pearls. Aviation Weather by Peter Lester comes closest of the many sources for weather information out there that gives relevant and beautifully formatted information in a succinct presentation. It's hard to make METAR and TAF abbreviations readable to a new student, but this Jeppesen book trys to at least tie them in with all the other weather information available, and show many different sources available to pilots for their preflight briefing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aviation Weather, February 24, 2012

As a former meteorologist, pilot, air traffic controller, flight service specialist, and aviation weather instructor at a local college, I have found this to be the best aviation weather book on the market. I would also recommend its companion, Aviation Weather Laboratory Manual. Understanding weather is the most important training a pilot can have. The majority of aircraft accidents are weather related. Understanding how weather forms and what causes it to change will not only make flying safer for pilots, their crew, and also passengers. Understanding how weather forms and what causes it to change will also allow pilots to get more safe flight time hours when other less knowledgeable pilots are staying on the ground. Peter F. Lester, along with being a college professor, is also a pilot. He knows what he is talking about and has many years experience teaching the subject. Instructors may also want to purchase Aviation Weather Instructor's Guide and Aviation Weather Images. All of the above products are offered through Jeppesen, Inc., a trusted distributor of aviation training products.

2.0 out of 5 stars Practical???, November 21, 2006
This review is from: Aviation Weather (Hardcover)
This book was full of theory. Theory is important up to a point . I got all of the information contained in this book in a cheaper book Aviation Weather and Weather Services (Gleim)

Practical weather was contained to small paragraphs in the last chapter of the book. As an instrument pilot I found the very little information on the actual flying aspect. Classroom oriented, certainly not cockpit oriented.
