I will update this as I get a chance to use install and use the rotors.

I just wanted to warn people that there are fake versions of this item being distributed, both by Amazon and resellers. I ordered from a marketplace seller and received two sets of fakes. I initially ordered two rotors. What arrived were two sets (total of four) of fake Avids. They were packaged in a plastic ziplock bag wrapped in tape and paper. I returned them and reordered (this time directly from Amazon) and received 1 fake and 1 real rotor.

The differences:
Fake:
-no original box / comes in plastic ziplock
-unidirectional grinding (all one direction)
-may or may not include hardware

Real:
-comes boxed in Avid/SRAM packaging
-grinding is multidirectional and finer
-comes with hardware
-markings on disc are etched much more cleanly

I was confused when selecting this rotor, then when it arrived I learned that the G2 was designed for the Juicy brakes and the G3 was designed for the Elixir. I did not returned it because I do have both brake models at home. Hey! Both rotors, G2 and G3 are perfectly interchangeable but you will be adding some weight to your Elixir designed bike. Go for it if you don;t care!

My Avid Elixir CR's came with G3 rotors. The rear one screamed like a banshee. I tried recommended method of break-in and set-up per SRAM 3 times and nothing quieted the squeal. Finally opted to change rotor. The G2 is slightly heavier due to fewer cut-outs and I believe this may be why it is more quiet. There is more solid surface for the pads to contact. I know the G3 squealing may have a variety of causes, but my hardtail 29er was not any fun to ride with the relentless brake squeal. Local shop wanted me to pay twice the Amazon price for this part. SRAM only provides a ridiculous fully solid rotor to solve this problem ("Solid Sweep"). That is why I buy from Amazon.

I purchased a 2009 Specialized Crosstrail Comp a few years ago, and the front rotor had always been off. Not sure if it was a defect or what, but after ignoring it for awhile, I decided to swap it out. Picked up this rotor, swapped it out (direct replacement) and it's been working great! No complaints. It comes with the full retail packaging, including new screws for installation.

All in all, if your rotors are warped or just worn down, this is a great replacement!

I upgraded from 160 mm to 203 mm on my Avid BB7's on my city bike. I purchased Avid IS caliper adapters to make the switch. I ride in city/urban conditions, with a few long descents due to the hilly terrain here in Seattle. I'm a big guy with a heavy bike, so the larger discs were needed. I found that the 203's just barely fit, with only 1-2 mm of clearance from the outside edge of the disc to the inside of the leg of the fork. Just enough to clear with no rubbing. After mounting the discs, I could see the inside leg of my fork was dimpled in to allow discs up to about 180 mm. So the 203's were a stretch. Look at your fork before purchasing discs as large as 203's to see if any accommodation has been made in the fork construction. I mounted the G2's onto my Shimano Centerlock hubs with Shimano's Centerlock to 6-bolt adapter. The 203mm G2's do work well and on long descents I feel more secure, with less fade evident at the bottom of the hill. I am using Avid's steel-backed, organic pads. The discs came in what appeared to be original packaging from Avid. 6 bolts were included - which I did not use due to using the Centerlock adapter instead.

I ordered a 160mm and a 180mm for my new set of wheels. The 180mm came in Avid packaging and included mounting screws. The 160mm came in a plastic bag, and no screws. Now I have to track down a set of screws. This is misleading because I ordered one of each size from the same product window, but just by choosing different sizes from the drop down menu I may or may not get the mounting screws.

Replaced a stock disc that was always in need of truing when I upgraded my mtb from the original cheap hydraulics to quality mechanicals (Avid bb7s -- recommended). Ordered better discs to go with them, and the result? I've only had to true one of the discs once in more than two years of riding.

I chose the Avid G2 rotor because of the many good reviews it got on Amazon and mtbr and because I'm replacing a G2 rotor. I expected it to look like the photo on the Amazon site or like the 203mm rotor on my previous bike. Instead it has a substantial mass of metal around the attachment holes. This pushes the weight up to 229 grams, about 3 ounces more than the 180mm rotor that it is replacing. I'm not a weight weenie so this seems like a reasonable cost for the increased braking and heat dissipation surface.

The installation went easily. I used an Avid CPS 203 mounting bracket (from Amazon) to move the caliper for the 203 rotor. Bought 6mm mounting bolts at the local hardware store.

Overall, I'm satisfied with the product although I wish Amazon would picture the product they are shipping.
