Upgraded to Avid Ultimate from the stock Avid SD 5 that came with my bike. Less play and the centering of the brake is more consistent, probably because this break set uses ball bearing. It has few other tricks such as the ability to feed the cable from right or left side and being able to disengage it without having to remove the rubber seal.

I am using it with Kool Stop inserts. Did not like much the stock Avid pads.

Does this really stop better than my previous old v-brakes? I think the Avid SL lever was probably a better buy and much greater positive return feel for improvement than this v-brake component. It's OK, and works none the less. I just don't know if it is worth the money because I feel that my previous brake pads seemed to be close to the quality of these but at 5x the lesser cost. I suppose the ball-bearing is nice, but maybe a little over rated. 4 star for performance, taking 1 star off due to price.
