Sibelius arrived about 3 days before it was originally scheduled (I had ordered it previously on but they had me waiting for a over a month [DO NO BUY FROM JOURNEY!!! it is about $60 more expensive and they are extremely unhelpful]).

Sibelius is so easy to use and the tutorial videos make it easier. It takes a while to remember where certain panels are; after about 3 days it was easy. The one "bad" thing, if it even counts as a negative, is that the entire program is about 50gigabytes. It's somewhat of a majestic file if you used the new musical sound library, but well worth it.

Don't be fooled into thinking you can circumvent proving educational eligibility just because you can buy the academic version on Amazon*: you'll still have to prove you are eligible. I took a webcam photo of me holding up my staff ID and was able to register the software within an hour (you still get 30 days to do this upon your first run of the program).

* I highly recommend getting the software from here instead of Avid because it, like just about everything else is inexplicably $50 cheaper.

Also, get the disks; it's a monster download.

It is very easy to transition from finale to Sibelius. This program is put together much better and is much more user friendly.
Just get, it's worth it.
Higher quality, professional look, user friendly, and more reliable.

This product is fantastic in terms of features and functionality. It supports templates (e.g. chamber, jazz, etc.), layers (sop, alto, ten, bass), annotations, symbols, recording from midi devices, and the list goes on and on. You can pretty much create professional-grade sheet music with this software and send it straight to the printer for publication. One of the cool features I love about it is that I can connect my keyboard with a midi-USB to my computer and record in live mode or one note at a time. Using this technique, I was able to generate so many scores so easily. In short, if you are a pro, looking for advanced scoring or composition, consider this.

The only reason I am not giving this product five stars is because, I find the interaction a bit difficult on Windows. For instance, Windows innately allows selection using the mouse-press, drag, and release. This works differently in Sibelius. Also, simply clicking on the score often does not result in the desired outcomes - for instance, if your score requires 8ths, quarters, and dotted notes, you will have to get used to using the panel before you get this to work correctly, otherwise, every click results in an extra note being fact, despite several months of experience, I still make this mistake. Another peeve of mine is that the notes panel offers a very limited array of notes and symbols. It contains many guitar-based symbols, but basic symbols, such as the slur, are not present. One has to look for them in a different menu for these symbols.

In the end, I strongly recommend this product since it features all essential capabilities for composition. I would however factor in the learning curve, especially if you are a Windows user. If Avid addresses some of these usage issues on Windows, I would gladly give it 5 stars.

Sibelius is a great product, but the process of proving eligibility for the academic version is very exacting, and you can easily lose the ability to authorize. Make sure you know ahead of time what is required.

I ordered Sibelius mainly for the purpose of arranging music for my acapella group, and I couldn't be happier with it! Once you get the hang of the keystrokes and the layout, notating your music goes so quickly, and it's a HUGE help. I've only had it for about two months and I can't get enough of it! Once I start a project, I just don't want to stop. I really love using it, it's very user friendly (coming from someone who is experienced with music but not a great computer expert). I highly recommend it. Worth every penny.

To say its product is intuitive for the musician is an understatement.

The ease of transition from Finale (an old favorite) to Sibelius makes this program well worth the price. In addition, a number of cumbersome functions in Finale that are necessary in composition are completely cleaned up and streamlined.

The sounds are good in most areas, but in others still feel electronic, but that's minor. For structuring a composition and mapping it out while still being able to hear the rhythms and chords, as well as get a general idea of the color and texture feelings of the music, Sibelius does not disappoint.

Best features: Sibelius reads files from different formats, and allows works in progress from other programs to move near seamlessly into this format. Also the scores are printed so that it makes sense to the performers. No crunching or bunching or phrases clumsily broken up across page turns. Phrasing makes sense, so more time in rehearsals is spent working on the music and less time is spent with the performers having to stop to clarify confusing printed music.

Love, love, love Sibellius 7. And for half the price as a student? Don't wait til it costs full price after college. If you like composing music, you won't be sorry you tried Sibellius. It's relatively easy to pick up and learn, if you read the shortcuts and have a basic knowledge of music. Great investment.

Just make sure you have enough RAM on your computer if you want it to run smoothly and not skip during playback. I have a Macbook Pro '11, and it only had the standard 4GB RAM. I could compose and playback more simple songs without problem, though loading took awhile. Then my friend sent me a symphonic piece, and I had to download it to iTunes so I could listen to it because my laptop wasn't fast enough to listen to the megafile without skipping. However, I upgraded to 16GB RAM and it's fine now.
