5.0 out of 5 stars The best book for parents or future parents!
I really enjoyed this book and found it most informative. I really think this book would help parents and future parents wishing to avoid parenting mistakes. I think preventing a mistake is paramount over trying to solve one. Even if your kids are older, I found this book very helpful. I even bought a copy for my dad!

3.0 out of 5 stars Nothing new, but some good reminders in an easy read
I agree with the previous reviewer who felt this book was very simplistic. Dr. Mangoni didn't write anything here that a well read, or even moderately aware, parent hasn't already heard. $14.99 was way over priced for something that could have just as easily been a series of brief articles.

However, I did like the concise format. Each chapter is merely a...

This review is from: Avoiding The 15 Biggest Mistakes Parents Make: A Pediatrician'S Perspective (Paperback)
I am so glad to have found this book that was recommended by a number of close friends. This concise book is easy to read and understand. Having this book makes me suddenly feel less stressful and more confident while trying to raise my children. I loved the section on what to feed my kids to avoid childhood obesity. This one gets an A+!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great book! - a TEENAGERS perspective!, August 29, 2007

This review is from: Avoiding The 15 Biggest Mistakes Parents Make: A Pediatrician'S Perspective (Paperback)
I just came back from my aunt's ranch and she was
reading a very interesting book. It was called
Avoiding the 15 Biggest Mistakes Parents Make, and
when she wasn't reading it, I was!
It's a fascinating book about how to parent children
correctly and I could see my OWN parent's mistakes
throughout this entire book. My brother Shawn started
reading it whenever my aunt and I were working and we
couldn't pry it out of his hands. It seemed to be a tug
of war between the three of us the entire weekend!
Oh how I longed to enfold this book amongst my peers
who see absolutely no guidance upon these expert
issues! I found these issues to be amongst the most
grievous a parent can employ because it comes from the
experience of the doctor who has suffered through such
radical behavior.
I found this book to be relevant to any and all
situations that I have encountered as a teenager, and
emplore any of my collegues to hear the words of Dr.
Mangoni as he has brought these current issues into
perspective.
I come to see the beauty within my parents loving care
for me as I finish this book, and am honored that one
doctor would conceive of returning us all to our
"proper form" as I am coming into adulthood myself.
I come to see the beauty of existance through Dr.
Mangoni's presence as I become ensconced within his
book, and hope that others will see the wonders of
life that are given to us all, through the
appreciation of the heart.
Thank you Dr. Mangoni. Its been a real pleasure to
read your book.

Christina Morgan

5.0 out of 5 stars The most interesting and insightful book for ALL parents!, August 24, 2007
This review is from: Avoiding The 15 Biggest Mistakes Parents Make: A Pediatrician'S Perspective (Paperback)
Avoiding the 15 Biggest Mistakes Parents Make is the
most WONDERFUL book! I have waited for Dr. Mangoni to
write this book for years!! My son was a client of Dr.
Mangonis' for many years, and every time we left the
office after our visit I wondered why he hadn't
written some sort of guide for us all to follow. He's
so knowlegeable, I could just sit and listen to him
for hours if I'd just had the chance! Now, in this
book I can read all of the years of experience that he
has accumulated. This is a wonderful Handbook about
how to AVOID the mistakes you will make in life BEFORE
you make them, and is so highly entertaining while it
does just that. I was simply glued to each chapter,
and laughed myself all the way through this book with
all of the interesting delemmas that he deals with on
a daily basis.
Life throws you those curve balls and you never know
when you'll be confused about your direction. This
book deals with those situations like divorce where
you'll tend to overwhelm your children if you're not
attuned to their true situation, and it deals with
every day life that can wake you up to what your
situations' trend can lead you to.
This book is a culmination of many years of
experiencing the after effects of the mistakes made by
us all. It's truely a treasure trove of advice from
one of the most loving and caring and competant
individuals that I have ever met.
Dr. Mangoni understands the intamacies of working with
children as well as parents. His loving attributes
extend beyond the daily care of his patients, and
comes to overwhelm the problems of the upcoming
situations in the world that are beyond our control.
His loving nature brings out the very best within each
individual that he serves, and has given me the
lifetime of peace of mind that I share with my son as
he has come to learn the intracasies of life. I am so
very happy that he has come to share his wealth of
knowlege and understanding with us all, and I see the
beauty of loving concern within my son's eyes because
of his influence.

To those who seek to be given the very best in life, I
call you to Doctor Mangonis' book as he has given us
all, peace of mind.

(In his Acknowlegements, Dr. Mangoni thanks the
parents and their children for making this book
possible; but it is we who are in continuous gratitude
for his services given to us all, though his gentle
ways of loving care.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Attention Amazon: PLEASE CHANGE MY VOTE FROM "YES" TO "NO" under item: Simplistic, dated November 25, 2007, December 11, 2007
This review is from: Avoiding The 15 Biggest Mistakes Parents Make: A Pediatrician'S Perspective (Paperback)
Yesterday I ACCIDENTALLY hit the WRONG button while reviewing this comment! That was completely unintentional and I want to say firmly that DR. MANGONI'S BOOK ON CHILD REARING IS THE BEST ONE THAT I HAVE EVER READ by a Pediatrician! And I have read PLENTY of them. If I could do it, I'd give this book 10 STARS (* * * * * * * * * *)! I've read it several times, and it's an outstanding book on avoiding the mishaps and pitfalls that our children experience in life. It's absolutely wonderful advice. I'd also like to add that I appreciated and enjoyed Dr. Mangoni's unique writing style in his "down to earth" approach. I have two teenage children of my own and I can say with confidence that DR. MANGONI'S BOOK IS ABSOLUTELY WONDERFULL!!!! And wish to add: THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

So PLEASE, PLEASE correct my mistake and convert my unintentional "yes" vote to "NO" that I ACCIDENTLY POSTED to the article listed in my title!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great doctor -- Great friend -- Great book!!, August 20, 2007
This review is from: Avoiding The 15 Biggest Mistakes Parents Make: A Pediatrician'S Perspective (Paperback)
I've known Dr. John Mangoni since he was a teenager. He was always smart, personable, responsible. I wasn't surprised at all when he became a doctor...an outstanding doctor with a gentle bedside manner that would calm the most nervous patient -- and parent. Again, no surprise that he would share his experience and expertise in this terrific book. That's totally in keeping with who he is...a generous and nuturing man. You are in very good hands, here, folks. Read with confidence!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best parenting books, August 11, 2008
This review is from: Avoiding The 15 Biggest Mistakes Parents Make: A Pediatrician'S Perspective (Paperback)
The is one of the best parenting books I have read. I know serveral parents I would like to give this book to, so they can see the mistakes they are making. Such as using their children as a pawn in their divorce. I wish my own mother would have read this book.

However, I did like the concise format. Each chapter is merely a compilation of Dr. Mangoni's observations, with each paragraph standing on its own as a separate bullet point. He doesn't even present a specific train of thought throughout a chapter which makes it easy to highlight a few important notes you want to remember for your specific family.

This might be a good book as a refresher every few years, but in general I wouldn't recommend it as a must read.

I purchased for my son and his wife who are expecting a baby. Found it poorly organized and simplistic. I certainly expected more from a pediatrician.
